My heart broke when I was told the news about Joanne’s passing. I’m still in a state of disbelief. It’s hard to grasp the fact that she’s gone. She’s always been a part of my life. We’ve been friends for over 40 years. She’s my oldest friend, she was my first roommate, my maid of honour, and a constant support. I’ll miss her self deprecating sense of humour, her sharp and witty tongue, her infectious laugh, her strength, and her courage. She’s gone far too soon.
My heart-felt condolences to her family, and to everyone who had the privilege to know and love her.

Fun times growing up with the McDonell Cousins.
I think the third picture was taken near Aunt Lil and Uncle Lackie's cottage on Lake Couchiching.
We are heartbroken to have to say goodbye to our dear cousin Joanne far too soon. How does one encapsulate a lifetime of memories in such a small space except to say that when we think of Joanne we think of celebration. Whether hosting a Newton Ladies' Christmas Dinner, attending family bbq's or the myriad of special occasions that a large extended family has, Joanne was never one to pass up a party! Her smile, laugh, wit, love and compassion will be remembered with fondness and missed with sadness. Our hearts go out to Uncle Bob, Anne Marie, Shaw, Rob and all of their families. Love,
Cathy and Robert
I am heart-broken and sending my deepest sympathies to the McDonell family. Ever since meeting Shaw in grade school and becoming lifelong friends, Joanne also became a big part of my life. When I was thinking about becoming a teacher, Joanne graciously allowed me to volunteer in her class. We bonded over our love of family, beer and travel and maybe most of all how much we love being aunts. We travelled in Canada, the US and to the Amalfi Coast. I'll miss her laugh and 'up for anything' attitude. I'll miss our annual jaunts to St. Jacob's for her birthday, going to the theatre to watch the Oscar contenders and bingeing The Crown. Her strength and courage over these last 5 years was inspiring. I'll miss having her in my life but so grateful for the amazing memories we shared.
