Obituary of Albert Bergen
BERGEN, Albert Daniel
Passed with dignity and grace on Sunday January 31, 2016 after a three and half year fight with lung cancer and as a result of being stubborn, refusing to follow doctors' orders, and doing things his way for nearly seven decades.
Bert was a loving husband of 45 years to Rosaline (nee Desbiens), with whom he shared a passion for travel and boating. He was a proud father to Jennifer Scott (Jarrod) who will miss his wise advice, but will still not put a worm on a hook, and Jacob Bergen (Andrea) who inherited his hairline and love of cars. Papa had a soft spot in his heart for his two precious granddaughters, Adelaide and Olivia Scott, whom he often relied upon for tech support. Bert is survived by a close family of five siblings: Sonja Kuli, Ronald Bergen (Edith), Loretta Kit (Kenneth), Charlotte Murray, and Barbara McMichael (David), as well as his siblings by marriage: Marjolaine St-Amand (Maurice) and Michel Desbiens (Ginette). Many nieces and nephews will remember with fondness the endless Lifesavers and fun pool parties. He will be sorely missed by dear friends and co-workers, each with their own story to tell.
Bert had a keen business sense and loved to mentor those smart enough to seek his advice. He often found himself sideways in a lock, left divots on several of the greatest golf courses in the world, and was on an endless quest to find a good steak. He maintained his trademark sense of humour right to the very end.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bert's life at an Open House at the Italian Canadian Club of Guelph on Saturday February 13, 2016. Further details available at www.dixongarland.com.
