Obituary
Obituary of Eileen Moore
Moore (nee Guest), Eileen Mae October 10, 1941, Toronto, ON - November 23, 2015, Enterprise, ON
With deep sadness, we announce the death of Eileen following a brave battle with mesothelioma these past two and half years. We are proud of her for the strength she showed despite a challenging prognosis from the onset. Unfortunately, a significant heart attack on Eileen's 74th birthday took the final wind out of her sails, and made it difficult for her body, mind, and spirit to find the strength to forge on. She passed peacefully in her sister Kathy's country home in Enterprise, Ontario, surrounded by her own things, her beloved dog and best friend, Charlie; and the loving presence of family and friends. She is predeceased by her mother Elsie, her father Carl, her brothers Edward, Gordon and Reginald.
Deepest gratitude is extended to Kathy for providing a comfortable home and constant support to Eileen throughout her cancer journey; and to the palliative care team of the local CCAC and the Lennox and Addington Hospice, who made her last few weeks more comfortable.
Eileen also recently lost her very dear friend, Beth Ferguson (September 25), both she and Beth being long time members of the Unionville Ladies' Slow Pitch League. Those of us who knew the strength of this women's network (which was more than just a weekly baseball game!) and the gift of friendship it provided to Eileen over many years, like to think that she and Beth have now met up on the other side, and are already rounding up the rest of the ULSPL crew mates to begin a baseball league of their own!
She leaves behind her sisters Barbara, Ruth, Donna (Klaus) and Kathleen (Chuck); her sister-in-law Carolyn; her children Cheryl (Dino), Karen (John), Russell (Yasemin), Kyle (Vanlata); and her grandchildren Blake, Devin, Nikhil, Arlen, Eda and Keiran. She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews as well, and a 'second mom' to too many 'children' to name.
Eileen's ancestors hail from Prince Edward County, more specifically Picton, Hillier, and Hay Bay. She took great comfort in searching out her family Church and Cemetery in Hay Bay approximately a year ago. Her parents moved from that area to Toronto, where she was born and raised in a family of seven children. It was a busy and not always easy life in the heart of St. Jamestown.
She met Doug in 1960, and together they raised their four children. Most of their family life was spent in Unionville, Ontario; and there are many happy memories of their time together there. Her children are grateful to have grown up in what was at one time considered a small town with a strong sense of community. Eileen contributed to this community in many ways, from being a Sunday school teacher at St. Philips' Anglican Church, to being a loving hockey mom for many years whilst Russell and Kyle pursued their talents in the Unionville Rep Hockey League. She worked many administrative positions, but her favorite was 'Office Manager' for the first branch of the 'York Region Midwifery Services.' As children were always her greatest joy, being a part of seeing so many new babes come to life was a privilege she did not take lightly.
Eileen was an avid reader, and her love of books provided great comfort in these past few years as she spent more time in solitude, enjoying the peaceful and quiet gift of her own company. It is interesting to note that after she and Doug parted ways, she found herself back in eastern Ontario, once again connected to her family roots. She also enjoyed live theatre, reality TV (most especially 'Survivor' and 'The Amazing Race,'), and many sorts of music, including gospel, country, Celtic (particularly the bagpipes!) hillbilly folk, and pop. Her all time favorite performer and the first love of her life was probably a toss up - Elvis or Frankie? - her kids were never quite sure!
