I was in contact with John twice in his adult life. John did a super job restoring brickwork at Whatevale Church a few years ago. About three years he did an exccellent job on the brickwork on our new addition at our place on Maystone. We had good conversations. I could see that he was a loving, caring husband and father, and a man of faith. I miss him. I did experience the memorial service via DVD, thanks to Paul Raymer.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Elsie and her entire family at this difficult time. We would very much like to attend the visitation today, but are unable to travel due to snow squalls in Barrie. With love, Ruth

We met John through Cub Scouts when our three sons were attending. John always had a fantastic attitude with the kids, displaying good values and a willingness to teach. My boys still remember racing Cub Cars and going camping in Haliburton with John, his sons and the rest of the Scouts. The whole Manning family offer our deepest condolences to the McDowell family.

I extend to Bev and her family my heartfelt sadness and sympathy at this very difficult time. John was a one-of-a-kind individual with many quality attributes; hard working, creative, had a hardy laugh, a fine musician and played music I liked, a superb story-teller, resourceful and practical, wise, unassuming and humble, a warm personality and accepting of others, generous, and navigated controversy well. All ending far too early.

I wish to send heartfelt wishes to immediate and extended family as well as his church family. I know all are feeling this final loss. John will always be remembered in my heart. I first read bedtime stories to he and Steve at Frazer Lake Camp while their dad did campfire

John always seemed to have a sparkle in his eyes, joy in his voice and an ever ready story. We enjoyed John's quick, dry, wit and his concise but profound wisdom. We always remember a statement John made any years ago while discussing a forest management plan for Bulpit Lake Family Camp. He said, "Perhaps the best thing we can do for the forest is to be in awe of it". We are better people for having had John in our lives. Sending loving wishes and strength to Bev. Marcus and Tracy, Jason and David. Love, Ken and Carol Drudge

Deep and heart-felt condolences to Bev and sons, and all who knew him. John was a wonderful person. I've known him since my mid teens. He always had a friendly word, a song, and was generous in "doing for others" John, we will miss you. I will always remember your laugh!
