NORTHCOTT, Richard "Dick"
Suddenly, on August 13, 2014, Dick passed away at Sunrise Assisted Living in Unionville, 3 weeks shy of his 81st birthday. Beloved husband for 47 years of Virginia "Ginger" (Mason), loving and very proud father of Heather and Rob (Tracy). Cherished and loving Grandpa Dick to Isaac and Sam Northcott. Also survived by his dear Sister Gail Dawson. Dick was a brother-in-law to Peter and Dorothy Mason and Harry Dawson. He was an Uncle to seven beautiful nieces from the Dawson and Mason families. Predeceased by his loving parents Dick Sr. and Aileen Northcott and cherished in-laws Leonard and Ida Mason. Dick was a dedicated and highly respected history teacher who instilled his passion for the subject in generations of students. He taught in high schools in Gravenhurst and Orillia at the beginning of his career. For 25 years, he taught at Markham District High School. He was a kindhearted and very generous friend to many people. Dick was a music lover and an animal lover, an avid reader, a collector of model trains and a very dedicated and longtime member of Unionville Alliance Church. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 1:00 pm with Visitation at noon until 1:00 pm at Dixon-Garland Funeral Home, 166 Main Street North, Markham, Ontario. Cremation has taken place. Our hearts are broken by his passing and he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his family and his many friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Society or the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
