Dear Virginia and family: I was saddened to hear of Richard's passing, though knowing his final resting place and in who's arms he is resting gives me great comfort. Remembering two of my favourite teachers at MDHS, and watching their romance bloom was a special privilege. Meeting up with Richard many years later at - no surprise - the Markham library one evening, then fueling the friendship through UAC attendance, brought a new side of him into my life. He spoke for me at my baptism. He helped me through a divorce. He counselled not only me, but my son Francois. We did a bible study together. I will never forget him. Blessings on you all. There is a party in Heaven going on, and Richard is dancing a jig, I'm thinking.

Ginger, I was very saddened to hear about Dick's passing. We had many long conversations over the years. He was so very passionate about the people and things that were important to him. Unfortunately I will be in British Columbia at the time of his Celebration of Life but I will be thinking about, and praying for, you, Heather, Rob, Tracy and the boys.

Virginia and family Mr Northcott was a dedicated teacher. He gave his free time to the students who needed extra help. He was one of the best teachers I had at MDHS. I have never forgotten all his extra effort to help me. Rest in peace

My condolences to the family. I've known Dick for several years through the New Toronto Historical Society. He was always finding old articles and photographs for me to add to the website and archives. I enjoyed his stories and our conversations! He was also incredibly supportive during a crisis time in my life when I became a single mother. He will be missed!

To Virgin and Family My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. I will never forget Dick's generosity. When I was first assigned a Grade 11 history class, Dick was there immediately with resources and encouragement. Dick had my back. I knew if I needed anything, he would be there. It was a pleasure work with Dick. Dick was always proud of his family taking any opportunity to sing your praises. As a man of faith you knew where he stood but Dick did not just talk; he acted on his beliefs. I feel confident Dick is in a place he was looking forward to. Unfortunately Kathryn and I will be out of the town on the 13th but please know we will be holding Dick's memory, and all of you, in our hearts. God bless

To Virginia and family, I was fortunate to have Mr. Northcott as a teacher when he first arrived in Markham. He brought Greek and Roman history to life and showed us the moral high ground in all issues. I will be out of the province for the memorial so please accept my condolences. He was a good man and a fine role model for his students. Cathy McClennan Class of 1968

It's been many years since I graduated from MDHS but I fondly remember Mr. Northcott; he was a Teacher who genuinely wanted his students to enjoy his class and get as caught up in history as he was. My condolences to his family.

Dick is well remembered as a dedicated history teacher at Markham District H.S. who cared about his students, and was a friend to many staff members. Above all, Dick loved his family and spoke proudly of his children. He was a kind man and a true gentleman. Sincere condolences.

Wow - I haven't been out much lately, but I will miss you most when I visit the health food stores and don't run into you there. I will miss our chats, your kind & encouraging words, your smile. Mrs. Northcott, Heather, Rob & Tracy and the boys - I am truly sorry for your loss. One thing was very clear: he adored you all! Praying for you and for the Lord's comfort during this time.
