Charles, Charlie, Chuck, Reverend Ledger, Mr. Ledger, Uncle Charlie, Grandpa Charlie, Dad. What an impact he had on an incredible number of people!

Charles passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital in the Palliative Care Unit on Tuesday, October 1st after battling health problems for several months. He is deeply missed by his children, Lorin, Kimberley-Anne (Darrin), John Blair (Barb), Mary (Steve), his grandchildren Lisa (Steve), Nathan (Cecilia), Kirsti (Galen), David, Nick, Andrew, Katie, Emma and Liam, by his great-grandchildren Charles, Alessia and one almost here, and by his stepsons, Mark (Mary), and Lindsay (Yan) Brumwell . He was a devoted husband to Gwendolyne  (1936 - 2001) who predeceased Charles and to Nancy whom he married in 2005.

Charles was an extraordinary man and touched countless people through his ministry and his teaching. His wisdom and guidance shaped incredible lives for his congregations, his ministry in Uganda, and for the students he taught.  He made an impact in the lives of many wherever he went. His care for his students and his intense contribution to mathematics education with Spirit of Math helped to set a whole new standard in the realm of education earning him North York’s 1985 Claude Watson Award, 1992 Waterloo’s Rene Descartes Medal and the 1994 Prime Minister’s Award for teaching. Most of all, he loved his family, and his eyes would light up when he saw his kids and grandkids, right up to his last days. His presence is irreplaceable and he will be deeply missed.

The family would like to thank the nurses and personal support staff at Stouffville Creek and the doctors, nurses and personal support staff at Markham Stouffville Hospital and Sunnybrook Hospital for their incredible dedication in taking care of our dad. To all our friends and family who were with us during this difficult time while he was sick, our heartfelt appreciation.
