I miss Larry already even though we weren't particularly close. Whenever we saw each other though, we could talk like brothers. Conversation was easy and engaging with Larry from high school days to our last conversation two Christmases ago. In high school I'd be over visiting his sister Julia and her good friend Laura. He'd be talking about running, basketball or golf and of course music. So glad he got to see the final shows of Billy Joel's residency in New York. I'll miss Larry's laugh. The little chuckle or humph if something caught his fancy. And when something really got him like a crazy sports story or something stupid happening in the world, the laugh would get louder from his gut and kind of repeat and his face would light up with his smile. Larry was kind with a big heart. I remember the day a few years back when he invited me in to see his sports memorabilia collection. He had stories connected with each piece that he'd show me, the stories were as important as the pieces of memorabilia. "You know they're just people," he'd say after telling me of meeting so-and-so in a hotel lobby to sign a jersey. I had planned to visit again but sadly that won't happen now. Our last conversation was in British Columbia at that Christmas. The weather was terrible and cold, neither of us liked it much. He sat in our Laz-y-Boy for most of the evening as we reminisced over old Markham memories, our games of golf with my brother, my Dad and Dennis and sports and life in general. Like I said, Larry was always easy to talk to and engaged in what we talked about. It then never occurred to me it would be our last in this world. I was supposed to be there today, Larry, and sorry and sad that I'm not but these things happen as I know you'd understand. Rest in peace my friend, until we meet again, doug.
My condolences (though condolences seems like such an inadequate word here) to you Julia, Dennis, Spencer and Stacy.

So many good memories of going to races together with the grove family! Larry and I would be running - of course he always beat me - and Julia and her parents would be cheering us on. They all made me feel like a part of their family. I enjoyed talking with Larry - he had lots of interesting ideas and opinions and wasn’t afraid to share them! Larry got me one of the first summer jobs at cheseborough ponds working the afternoon shift- what a blast that time was. More recent memories of Larry are of the Oscar night party Julia and Dennis hosted - it was a Sunday night - so of course Larry was there and we were all just comfortable together - getting caught up on each others lives as we enjoyed the night’s festivities . I also remember Larry coming to our house in bc with Julia and Dennis and spending a fun night together at Christmas time. He was keen to hear about our lives and what we thought about our latest stage of life. He was a good conversationalist- always with interesting input but also genuine curiosity about Doug and I and what we were doing. He was around for most of my life , sometimes closer than others, but a steady presence , nonetheless . I will miss him.
