Yesterday, I was following up with John by phone about an invitation I sent him a week ago for the upcoming Celebration of Life for my late husband, John McClellan. The absence of a response to the invitation and the click at the end of the line led me to search for him online. I was so, so deeply saddened to learn that he passed away. Following a meeting we had in January, I felt compelled to make a point of getting together with him regularly, just to carry on the traditional lunches he and my John shared. I didn't know John well, but when there were gatherings in the circle of friends I met him in, I always liked talking to him and thought he was a brilliant, quick-witted and gentle soul. We always looked forward to his humorous mailings. I was happy to return the same to him one day when I came across a sign in Kingston that I knew would make him chuckle. He brought joy and laughter to so many and he will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by those whose lives you touched. Rest in peace John.
Jack was a good friend for many years to the folks who grew up on St. Helen's and Lansdowne in West Toronto in the 1950s and 60s. We were fortunate that after losing Jimmy in the 90s that five of us -- Jack, Al, Henry, Ed and I -- continued to get together once a month for lunch until we lost Henry and Al a few years ago. Jack was so pleased that that all those freindships lasted for 60 years or more.
