Forever Loved, Never Forgotten ..
Helga Bucys
May 14, 1933 - November 11, 2023
Passed away peacefully in her 90th year surrounded by loved ones at home in Markham on November 11, 2023. Predeceased by beloved husband John. Dear mother of Frank (Beverly) and Karen (Joe). Proud Oma to her sweethearts Violet, Michael (Rayna), and Lauren (Christopher). Dear sister to Mary and a second mother to Diana. She will be greatly missed by friends and family including cousins, second cousins, nieces and nephews, great niece and great nephews and a great-great nephew. She will be deeply missed by her longtime friend and caregiver Tuli, who was a huge part of her life.
Helga was born in Lithuania and fled the war as a child, on her own, and came to Canada with nothing but a desire for a better life. She succeeded in making everyone’s life she touched richer. Helga worked in the service industry and was a long-time manager at Fran’s restaurants. She also worked at Adath Israel and the Inn on the Park. Helga was an avid gardener, nature lover, forager and hard worker. She loved each and every animal, and loved to spoil her dogs. Her home was always a warm and welcoming place to be.
Friends and family will be received at the Dixon-Garland Funeral Home, 166 Main Street North, Markham. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19 from 5 pm to 9 pm. A second visitation will be held on Monday, November 20 at 2 pm. Funeral service will be on Monday, November 20th at 3 pm. Reception to follow at 5 pm at Helga’s favourite restaurant. Flowers or donations are welcome. Donations in Helga’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society of York Region or Evergreen Hospice.
