First off, my sincerest condolences to Marcia and family.
Almost 20 years ago, I became passionate about the stock market and I purchased my first ever, stock. This stock was called “Avalon Rare Earths” and Don was the Company’s CEO. After investing for a relatively short period of time, within a year or so, I had made 10x my money. I was able to pay off my debt with my profits and it became my first of many trades. After becoming an investment professional, I met Don at PDAC and later at a small cap conference. Imagine meeting your favourite hockey player in person. That’s what it was like…
Don outlined the components of a feasible mining project, while distinguishing from the “promotes” and mentored me in the way of finding and understanding Canada’s finest mining opportunities. (Although, he always claimed that Avalon wasn’t a mining company, it was a technology company! :)
Throughout my career, he introduced me to his network of geologists, mining engineers and capital markets executives. While I was first intimidated by the prospect of meeting them, they turned out to be very down-to-earth people. I’m grateful that I met Don and for his support and encouragement when pursuing my own investment career and beginning a financial technology startup to help the next generation of retail investors learn to invest.
Don always wanted to create an impact wherever he went. He was so proud of his family: his sons Andrew and Peter, his grandchildren and of course, Marcia, his wonderful, incredibly strong and resilient spouse - who was also a geologist. Don always recognized the talent in people and saw that the future needs to embrace mining and technology to make the world a better place - especially when it comes to improving the environment and quality of life for everyone.
People like Don are a rare commodity and it’s important to appreciate their contributions and to keep their legacy alive by supporting projects that can improve our generations for years to come. Thank you for all that you did. We celebrate you today and you will be missed by many.
Cheers to you, Don!

DON BUBAR It is with great sorrow that I write my final tribute to my old Unionville buddy Don Bubar. However, it is with inspiration that I look back at the legacy of Don, the pre-eminent rare earth mining developer. Don Bubar ability to draw in an eclectic group of individuals and provide them with the ability to become life long friends was unique. Don Bubar was a true visionary my memory of Fishing adventures Yellowknife NWT and Minaki NW Ontario built relationships and friendships forever

Shocked to hear of Don’s passing. My condolences to his family. Connected with Don in the early 1990’s and shared office space at 111 Richmond St. Don’s passion for the industry is memorable and the pioneering and perseverance for specialty metals is his landmark. RIP Don and enjoy the view of the “Big Whopper” up there.

Very shocked and saddened to learn of Don's passing. I have known Don since our days together in graduate school at Queen's. He has been a passionate advocate for the Canadian Mining Industry with his many years of work with PDAC. He was certainly way ahead of his time on recognizing the growing importance of critical minerals and in working to improve relations with indigenous communities. He will be greatly missed. Sincerest condolences to his wife Marcia and his family. RIP.

Don was the first friend I made at McGill, and I certainly hit the motherlode!
It has been such a pleasure and honour to have been his friend all these years.
It’s easy to remember his analytical mind, humour, gentleness, sense of irony and ready smile.
Easy to remember…which makes saying goodbye so hard.
My deepest condolences to Marcia, Andrew, Peter and Carol.
