With profound sadness we announce the passing of Hendrik (Hank) Smit of Unionville, Ontario on March 5, 2023 at the age of 90 years. Hank was born on July 9, 1932 in Holland, moved to North America as a young man, and happily settled in Ontario, Canada. Beloved husband of Rose Smit (nee Rodriguez). Loving father of Julie Smit (Daniel Heath) and Jill Thomson (John). Cherished grandfather of Victoria and Christopher Heath and Jordan and Jessica Thomson. Dear brother of Bets Khun of Holland, Joyce Vander Vis of California, and Peter Smit of Aurora and pre-deceased by Janny, Klaas, Gerrit, Wis, Margo, Jan, Samuel, Neil, Ann, and Johannes. Relatives and friends will be received at Dixon-Garland Funeral Home (166 Main Street North, Markham, Ontario) on Saturday, March 11, 2023. Visitation will be held from 10:30 - 12:00, followed by the funeral service at noon, and then a reception. The family are grateful for the prayers and acts of kindness shown to Hank and his family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the charity of your choice.
