With sadness, the family announces the passing of John Lachlan Cattanach, Q.C. on January 28,

2022, at Markham Stouffville Hospital surrounded by his family. Cherished husband of Isabelle

(Shane Pilling). Treasured Gramps to Heather (Lloyd), Terry (predeceased), Tori, Brandon

Born to John Arpad Cattanach and Evelyn Cameron on August 1, 1926, in Toronto, Lachlan

moved to Markham at an early age. He attended Franklin Public School and Markham District

High School, Queen’s University and Osgoode Hall. At Queen’s, he met the love of his life,

Isabelle Bruce, and, together, they spent 66 years raising a family, skiing at Hidden Valley,

golfing at The Thornhill Club and traveling the world. Lachlan loved watching sports, playing

bridge and solitaire and investing in the stock market. Called to the Bar in 1953, Lachlan

practised law in Markham for almost seventy years. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in

1970. Lachlan embodied the spirit of community and was a founding member of the Markham

Kiwanis Club and chairperson of the St. Andrew’s United Church Board of Trustees for 20 years.

He was instrumental in the establishment of Markham Stouffville Hospital.

A special thanks to the many doctors and nurses at Sunnybrook Health Centre, Markham

Stouffville Hospital, Dr. Dennis Wong, the Lee family and his caregiver, Grace Millington, who

helped Lachlan navigate many challenges over the last few years. Lachlan touched the lives of

so many and never lost hope or faith. Lachlan’s wisdom, generosity, grace, spirit of adventure,

sense of humour and wit will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations to Markham Stouffville Hospital, https://mshf.on.ca/  Queen’s University, https://www.queensu.ca/  St. Andrew’s
