Dear Erma, Cheryl, Steve, and family members in many generations, We fondly remember the faith and diligence of Bishop Harvey and have been enjoying the various testimonies of his life in these rich memories. It does seem like only a few years ago that we experienced his many fine Christian virtues including patience and care for so many people. We continue to see his efforts bearing fruit around the world. May the family be comforted and filled with the assurance that comes from above. Ivan & Carol Franck, Qingdao, China

Patti and I are praying for Harvey and the whole Harvey and Erma family. I recall my father saying that Harvey often mediated among the Sider children when they were growing up in Cheapside—especially between Morris and Robert, my father. I saw that diplomatic spirit in my uncle in every aspect of his life, except for in his often-noted rigour about departure times. He seemed to me a gentle and intelligent man. I was interested to learn that he began his career as a teacher. As a teacher myself, I can see his fit for the profession. Patti and I wish the family peace and look forward to perhaps meeting again at some point to remember Harvey and old times.

Dear Erma, Cheryl and Steve, Steve and Karen, and families,
Laura and I send our heartfelt condolences to you as you celebrate the life of a husband, father, and grandfather that was so loved, valued, and appreciated. He lived his life fully and exemplified a life of service and commitment to Jesus. Our lives as a couple are significantly shaped and marked by his leadership. He was the incoming President at NCC when I (Craig) was in my last year of high school. He invited us to serve in church planting in Oakville, an experience that forever shaped our lives. And he invited us to serve as a Bishop with the BIC, prompting a move to the US. His humility, courage, candor, and interest in our development was a gift to us. Please know we are praying with you today knowing that in our grief, he is enjoying a wonderful day!

Erma, Please accept our heartfelt condolences for your loss. Our prayers are with you and your family.
We are hopeful 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 gives you comfort.
13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

Our condolences and prayers in this time.
Patti and I are particularly grateful for the way in which Harvey expressed support and care to us when we were in the early days of life and service in Quebec. He, along with Erma, made us feel welcome and "part of the BIC family".

My sincere condolences to Erma and family.
I loved Harvey. My time as senior pastor at Heise Hill was highlighted by serving alongside him. It was an honour for me when he accepted to mentor me. Those five years and his role in my life will be remembered always. Without fail, he would send me an unsolicited email filled with only words of encouragement after each Sunday sermon I did. His encouragement and belief in me was a great source of strength for me.
The world was blessed by his love and devotion to God's kingdom.

God watch over you as you grieve here for Harvey’s passing into the arms of Jesus. Two things stand out when I remember Harvey. 1- He encouraged me to become the first ever licensed female BIC pastor in Canada. His support for my seminary training was phenomenal. 2- He told me once that when reading scripture I should always read it in it cultural context as well, and I often remember that when I read the Bible. He was kind, intelligent and thoughtful and a caring bishop when we were a young pastoral couple. He certainly was an influence in our lives. He will be missed in so many ways.

Our deepest sympathies to you Erma, and Sider family. I will always remember Harvey as a very intelligent and warm spirited man of God. As a youth at Heise Hill, I remember Harvey popping his head into the youth room on Sunday mornings to say Goodmorning. He also helped to build connections between the youth and the seniors at Heise Hill. I fondly remember a visit some of the youth made to Harvey and Erma’s apartment at Parkview where they told us about their years of service as missionaries. Thankful he is celebrating a life well lived with his Heavenly Father. - Blessings, Laci (Wideman) Normandeau and family
