It was very sad to hear of Ruth's passing. The Tate and Cruickshank families go way back to when Ruth and my mother, Grace grew up together in Toronto in the 1930's. Ruth and George were very good friends with my parents for the past 80 odd some years and spent a great deal of time together and always kept in touch. Ruth especially would call my mother quite often to hear what was happening in our family and to bring us up to date what was happening with hers. There was always something to talk about. I especially remember Ruth at the cottage at Deanlea Beach. One day I was playing around the Cruickshank cottage with Don, when my shoelace became untied. I didn't want to go all the way to my cottage to get my mother to tie my shoe as it was too far to go for a 5 year old. So instead I knocked at the back door of the cottage and after a few minutes, Ruth came to the door. She wasn't particularly happy to see me as I woke her up from a nap but she did tie up my shoe. But in later years, I think she forgave me for the intrusion, as she and I would do most of the talking on the phone whenever she called to speak to my Mom. My Mom always wondered what Ruth and I would be talking about for so long. I think she got a little jealous. Ruth was a very kind and special lady with a great sense of humour. My sisters and I want to express our deepest condolences to Doug, Don, and Barb and to all of their families. We are all going to miss her.

Bruce and I were very sad to hear of Auntie Ruth's passing. She was such a lovely lady!!! Who can forget how her face would light up when she saw you? And her first words were always, "It's so nice to see you!!! How are you doing?" She was always so interested to hear what we were doing and what the children were up to. It was a delight to visit her because she was a good listener and was upbeat and pleasant. I will remember her lovely chuckle, for she often saw the bright side of things.
I've enjoyed looking at the pictures you have posted. I especially liked the one of Auntie Ruth at the baseball game!!
Good-bye's are hard....even at 98 1/2. Our prayer is that the many, many good memories you have will be a comfort.
Our deepest sympathy to all of Auntie Ruth's cherished family.
Janice and Bruce (Hynds)
