Obituary of Pearl Veronica Deonarine

Pearl Deonarine: June 25, 1926 – February 24, 2021

The family of Pearl Veronica Deonarine is deeply saddened to announce the passing of their matriarch on February 24th, 2021 at the age of 94.  Pearl passed away peacefully at home with her devoted family by her bedside. She is predeceased by her husband Claudius and her daughter Gemma.

Pearl is survived lovingly by her daughters Joy (Michael) and Lenore, her granddaughters Kathryn (Richard), Michelle and Allison, and her cherished great-grandchildren, Penelope and Ethan. Cherished nephews and niece include Claude Seupaul (Tampa,FL), Margaret Napier (Los Angeles, CA) and Simon Seupaul (Markham), and the Bhola family. She was an Auntie to many in North America and in her former homeland, Trinidad.

Pearl’s greatest joy was spending time with her family.  She played an integral role in raising all her grandchildren and teaching them life lessons only she could pass on.

An accomplished seamstress, baker and gardener, Pearl enjoyed spending quiet moments at home but never hesitated to travel when the opportunity presented itself. She visited Europe with her husband, ventured to many cities across Canada and the US, and sailed throughout the Caribbean on many cruises.  For over 35 years, she was an active parishioner of Grace Church Markham and her homemade coconut bread was a favourite item sold at the annual Christmas Bazaar. Pearl’s creativity shone for decades, as she made and decorated numerous wedding and birthday cakes. Her defining event was designing and creating both the wedding cake and wedding dress for her daughter Joy!

In her later years, she eagerly attended the day program at Unionvilla where her completed artwork won ribbons at the Markham Fair. Her green thumb and special eye for floral design was showcased at the Markham Horticultural & Garden Society as well as all around her home in Markham.
