Farewell Uncle Charles, who was the beloved first cousin of my father Eric Brown, we will miss you and remain in awe of your 100 years!
As Eric’s son I share the middle name Gower which is passed down from our Great Uncle who died in the 1914-18 war.
We are sending all our love and fond remembrances from the Brown/Hall/Phillips and respective families in UK.
We had happy meet-ups over the years both when Uncle Charles visited UK and when we made trips to Canada. In my case these include getting to drive one of the famous Wolseleys (in around 2000) and spending a wonderful weekend with Les, Mary and Charles in Wilberforce in 2015. To Uncle Charles delight this also included traveling there and back in a Mustang convertible during which we thoroughly enjoyed sharing family, military and engineering stories.
Such wonderful memories will remain with us always.

Charles and Georgina were notable residents of the hamlet of Whitevale, where we live. They were involved with People or Planes, fighting against the North Pickering airport, keen on preserving the heritage of our historic hamlet, dedicated to participating in community events, often involving one of his antique cars. We became closer when he became a member of our book club after the death of Georgina. We admired his vitality, his positive attitude, his intellectual curiosity, his zest for life. He had to learn how to cook for himself and enjoyed what he called his “cooking experiments “. He learned how to bake bran muffins and started distributing plastic bags with his signature muffins to all his friends. He loved to speak of his past, his time in Burma, how he worked building the subway in Toronto, how he met Georgina. He was always keen to solve problems using his engineering skills and thirst for learning. Once he had to leave his beloved school house in Whitevale and live in Sunnybrook, he took pleasure in his visits to the garden and in the hands-on workshops offered in the Veterans Wing. His spirit was the one of a young man trapped in a 100 year old body. We thought he was indestructible and we will not forget him.

Our deepest condolences to the Neville family from Kenneth Gooding and family. Our father, Kenneth Gooding was until recently a roommate of Charles in K2E at the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre, when Charles unfortunately was moved into another room. Our Dad very much missed Charles and kept hoping to see him. Dad was quite interested in Charles adventures in India and Burma during the war. In fact, we all enjoyed our conversations with him, admired his sense of adventure, his many hobbies, his iPad, and his independence on his scooter. We had the good fortune of sharing Christmas lunch with him last year at the Veterans Centre when we invited him to join us at our table. He was delighted to, we all had a lovely time. He was a perfect gentleman, a delight to be with, always making us wish we had known him longer!

A great man with many talents. Charles also wrote and self published his book Wolseley Cars In Canada. He also appeared in a movie The Hurst and Davies affair with one of his restored Wolseley's and played the role of the Chauffer.
