Dear Lian Eng,
I am so very sorry about the passing of your wonderful partner, Philip Blyth. My deepest condolences to you and to your family and his family. May beautiful memories of the very happy 17 years that both of you shared together bring you much comfort during this difficult time of mourning. Both of you enjoyed a very long and loving relationship
Although I did not get to meet Philip in person, I understand from you, from his Obituary, and from the numerous and glowing tributes to him on the Tribute Wall that he was a very clever, charming, talented, accomplished, and well-traveled man. I can also understand how very much you must miss him.
You are in my thoughts and prayers. Please take care and God Bless.
With deepest condolences,
Pamela Sodhy (your Malaysian classmate since the 1950s)

I had the good fortune to meet Philip at the Retirement Home where he lived and I worked part time. I remember how kind and gentle he was, a true gentleman. He reminded me a lot of my own father who passed away 4 years ago. Because my name was Penny he would call me "Tuppence". I can still see the grin on his face when he said it and I responded with a big smile!! Memories like that will stay with me forever. It was an honour and a great privilege to have known Philip. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time especially you Lian. It was always a pleasure and joy to see you during your visits.
Grief never ends but it changes. It's a passage not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness or lack of faith. It's the price we pay for love!!!
Fondly Penny Wilson (Memory & Company)

I had the great privilege of developing a relationship with Philip through our shared interest in our family tree.
Through our meetings over the years, I grew to admire and respect Philip for the person he was: a kind, caring and generous gentleman with a deep interest in others, and always impeccably “turned out” with his flamboyant dress sense.
He always took a keen interest in my own family, making notes of our conversations in his unmistakable meticulous detail, ensuring that he was always up to date with our progress.
With his intelligence and integrity, balanced with his “Blyth” sense of humour, I have always had the upmost respect for Philip. I am thankful for the positive influence and mark that he has left on my life. Someone I will miss.
Dedicating a tree in Philip’s memory is very apt. It will remain as a constant reminder of the interest we both shared in the roots of our family heritage whilst reminding us that life, along with Philip’s memory, will continue to grow and thrive in the coming years. Philip’s memory will remain and live on in our hearts.
Rest in peace, my friend.

Hi Tony, I only discovered this site yesterday and found out my uncle had sadly died. I had lost contact with him just after he went to Canada. I have seen your post on here and wondered firstly your ‘branch’ of the Blyths and whether you know anything of the fantastic family tree that Philip had done. My husband is trying to do our family tree and I would love get in touch with you. My phone number is 01406 364716 if you could ring me please Darrell Osborn nee Blyth Thank you

I first crossed path with Philip and Lian on a sunny day in front of our new home in the swan lake village. Lian's bicycle chain had come off and they were walking their bike. I helped to fit the chain back. Then we introduced eachother. My first impression of him was of a very kind, gentle & helpful person. This was reinforced when I use to see him pulling our weeds from the sidewalk not just in front of their house but way past on my daily walks in the village.
Rest in peace my friend. Lian We are here for any help you may need.

I first met Philip when he visited us with my sister, Lian, in 2012 in Melbourne. Philip arrived with 2 big suitcases of matching outfits, 19 pairs of shoes and colourful cravats. Definitely travelling in style for his 29 day cruise from Sydney to San Francisco via the Pacific/Society Islands. Philip had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed more travelling with Lian by his side. They truly love each other.
Showing Philip around Melbourne was a delight as he had a wealth of knowledge and an innate sense of direction, with special interest in our Shrine of Remembrance. We ended the tour with our shared love of desserts.
We spent three memorable weeks in Toronto last May/June. Philip's love of music and dance shone through as we sang and danced to our favourite songs. We treasure this time spent with Philip not knowing it would be the last.
May you rest in peace Philip.

Philip was a kind man. He was a true British gentleman.
He loved to ride his bicycle and when we met in our neighbourhood, we had lovely chats. He was thoughtful and very knowledgeable on so many topics. He had a generous spirit. He would pull the weeds from my front walkway and he did the
same for other neighbours. He did many things for others, without expecting any recognition for his good deeds.
He loved his British treats, especially Licorice Allsorts.
He was devoted to Lian.
He will be missed by many.

A gentleman and a scholar,
A caring and loving neighbour,
A friendly and engaging conversationalist,
A modest know-it-all man of the world,
But most of all, a dear friend, whose gentle smile,
Witty and humorous remarks make every engagement a timeless memory.
If living life to the fullest is a hyperbole,
Then you have never met someone like Philip
Living life with so much enthusiasm,
So much passion
And so much energy like nobody else,
A 007 who knocks you down, not with his gun but his wits and humour.
Let us celebrate the life of an angel on earth
And a friend in Heaven.
Fond memories from Ling & Francis Chan
