I was truly saddened to hear of Karen's passing. In my time with Karen I knew a person full of life, love, energy, compassion, and free of judgement. She enriched my life and so many others and for that I will always be grateful and hold her in highest regard. I hope you find peace Karen.

I still can’t believe this, I love you Karen, I have such fond memories of you. All the time we spent together playing basketball, handball and winning Ontario Championship. Tourneys and weekends and sleepovers, jokes all day all night. When you played soccer with me your senior year, what a treat that was. Priceless really, because you had never played before and rocked it!! Those last couple months, before you went off to Western and we played in that Toronto summer league together, just us two with all those university juniors and seniors, ooooh how I wish that I could go back in time for even a second... Our sports family, nothing like it. I can see your beautiful smile, piercing gorgeous blue eyes and hear your soft gentle voice. You were and amazing person, this really hurts. I’m trying not to question it; I find comfort knowing that you are in a much better place. Sending my love and prayers to your family. Rest In Peace my dear friend, God Bless you. Xoxoxoxoxoxo

I've known Karen since grade 10, but didn't know her as well as my husband, Brad did. They became the closest of friends in their 20s (thanks to College Pro) and they really looked out for each other. Karen loved her family immensely, especially her beautiful nieces. She was so proud of them and loved spending time with them. From what I've been told, she had a special bond with her dad. Yes, she was an amazing athlete, but she was so much more. She was one of the nicest, most genuine, caring, people you could meet. Beautiful on the inside and out. Smart and talented, with so much charisma and confidence. Karen was always smiling and happy to run into old friends. Her love of nutrition, health and wellness shone through in every post made on social media; another way Karen felt she could help people. She remembered special dates, like birthdays and anniversaries and always sent a message of well wishes. Little things that mean so much. Karen will be greatly missed and will always be remembered as an incredibly special person.

Karen, I am very sad to hear of your passing. We played Markham Rep Basketball together many moons ago. When I first joined the team I remember being nervous and intimidated. You were this very friendly and bright smiled girl, who welcomed me right away. I always looked up to you. You were a great ball player and friend. Last time i saw you in the dental office if was nice to catch up. My thought are with your family at this difficult time. May you rest in peace my friend. xoxo

I am stunned and pained by your loss, our loss.
Karen entered my life when I was teaching and coaching at MDHS.
She was an important leader on some very special championship teams I had the privilege to coach. What made those teams special was not the winning but, rather, the chemistry and the bond that developed between the players. They were so tight that they essentially became sisters to each other.
It is something that I had never seen as a player or coach prior or after. And Karen played a huge part in developing that chemistry and bond.
What I remember most about her was how contagious her smile was; how disarming her sense of humour was; how her personality and her heart exuded kindness and compassion. Those qualities of Karen’s were obvious to all then and throughout her life.
During my career, I always kept a photo on my desk of Jackie Robinson’s tombstone that I used as motivation to try to be my best everyday; it read: “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives”. What I did not see coming was the impact Karen and her sister teammates made on my life. It is something that I will never forget.
Karen’s life was indeed important because of the impact she made not just on my life but on the lives of so many others and I am consoled by the thought that she will live on in my memory and the memories of everyone she touched.
Rest in Peace, Karen. You will be missed but never forgotten.
With love and deepest sympathy,
Frank Nardone

Karen, words cannot express how much you will be missed. Although it had been many year since we saw each other, I have many fond memories of our time as friends in public school. Know that you will be dearly missed and I hope you are at peace.

Karen, I am completely heartbroken over hearing of your passing. I am unable to find the words to express the sadness over your loss. You were kind, funny, smart and sweet, and the world is a lesser place without you in it. We had so many fun and crazy times together, going out and getting into trouble (just a little), studying (not really), just staying in and watching Ten Things I Hate About You (which I still love to this day because of you). I can't express how much I am going to miss you. All my love to your family.

Karen was such an inspiration to many people. One of the kindest sweetest and most genuine person I’ve ever known. Her passing leaves a large void in my life.
We shared many conversations and plenty of laughs together. I’m truly going to miss having her in my life.
I hope she knows how deeply her friends loved her and perhaps now she can find peace.
Namaste Karen.
Loads of love and respect.
Your good friend, Shawn
