Susan, Bill, Jane and Sally,
I happened to see your mothers obituary in the Stouffville Tribune. Both your mom and your dad were long ago family friends of my parents, Ian (Sam) and Eleanor (Susie) Bain. We grew up in Agincourt when your parents had their farm at McCown and Bloomington. During a difficult family time, when my mother was being treated for breast cancer, your parents took me in at the farm for two weeks one summer when I was 12 years old. It was an amazing time which all these years later I think of fondly. I drank unpasteurized milk for the first time, played endlessly with Tippy the farm dog, helped pick veggies and raspberries with your mom, helped raise a newborn lamb with your dad, and made stamped leather bookmarks! Your parents were so kind to me and instilled in me a love for farming and land which continues today. My condolences to you all.

I first met Betty and the entire Courage family more than 51 years ago when Susan and I were teenagers. I have very happy memories of Betty and her family. She was always, without fail, a pleasant and gracious lady. My son, Matt, also fondly remembers visiting at the farm and later (about age 2 - 3) asking me: "when are we going to Pat-etty's?" - somehow he missed the 'b' in Betty. Our condolences to Susan, Bill, Jane, Sally, and their children.

Betty welcomed all of us 'step-grandchildren' into her home and family with humour and kindness. We learned so much from her: from collecting eggs to making icicle pickles; from picking strawberries to using a loom. She enriched and inspired our lives and we are very grateful for all the time we could spend with her. All our hugs and sympathy to everyone who misses here!

It was with a peace filled heart that we heard of Betty's passing. She was a vibrant person and no matter how long or short a life is lived, if well lived, the flame will eventually burn out. We hope you take comfort in knowing that you are upheld by your many friends and family and that you too will find peace now that Betty is at rest. Although we cannot join you, you will be in our hearts and thoughts on Sunday.
"Peace be with you". Love, Carolyn & Ian

I have so many fond memories of your mother. She was a very humble, gracious person. Swinging on the ropes in your barn and your mom making us lunch to eat on a snowbank on Bloomington Road are two of my favorite memories at your place.
