Every time we ran into Steve, the proud father, he showed us little Aspen's photos, he made us love and be part of cute little Aspen. Before you knew it, we felt part of her and took the time to make her a special baby blanket and look for interesting things for her, which we enjoyed. Thank you Steve and Jordana for letting us be part of beautiful little Aspen.

Aspen loved books. She especially loved books with interactive features: tabs, windows, tails or pop-ups. Dad was given the task of finding a book for Aspen that had such a feature so she would have something to play with when she came to visit.
Dad scoured the shelves at bookstores looking for the perfect book. He found one about a little boy with a pet turtle. When you tapped the turtle it would light up and glow as you turned the pages. When he gave it to Aspen, she tapped and tapped that turtle (knowing it was supposed to do something), but it never lit up -I guess he didn't test it first.
Disappointed, Dad ventured back out into the city looking for a version of the book with a working turtle. The store where he got it didn't have it. Neither did many others. He finally tracked it down (after dedicating a full workless afternoon to the conquest). Unfortunately, Aspen never got to tap that turtle and light him up, but the book is a precious memory of how loved that little girl was. I will tap it for her and let it shine!

There are few things that ruffle Jordana, but Aspen was skilled at this. The first time I met her, we decided to take her to the mall. She was such a trooper, let momma get her all set up in the back seat, acting as innocent as ever. We drive over to the mall, only to realize that Jordana has left her purse at home.
No problem, we drive back to her house, get her purse, and go back to the mall. We are ready to show Aspen off and then realize we don't have the stroller. Jordana mutters something about baby brain and we head home and decide it's best to just not try a third time.
Yeah, that little peanut turned her mommy (and daddy) to mush.

Jacob had the pleasure of sitting next to Aspen at Dave and Busters. She reached over towards Jacob and recognized his face and even made a swipe for his waffle! From the first time we met Aspen we were in love. Her beautiful smile and content disposition made it a complete joy to be around her. Aspen quickly made friends with our daughter Charlotte. It's been an ongoing joke in my family that Aspen cannot possibly be a combination of quiet and reserved Steve and and Type-A, conservative Jordana. Since day 1 she has been a cheeky little show off, always ready for praise and basking in attention.
She had the expressive face of a little actress, always appearing to be 'in on the joke'. If you were willing to watch, she would give you a show! She would sing and chatter and bounce around, always looking for mischief. She was so advanced for her young age, saying 'Mama' at a mere 5 months and she could run with her walker and beeline up the stairs before she was 9 months. Later, her 'Mama's' would become 'Mum!' and only when she was frustrated and her 'Dadeeeeeee's' were an exclamation of pure joy (SORRY 'MUM' ha ha).

Aspen came into this world in a fury of Doctors and Nurses in a long and drawn out labour process. Despite her tiny size (just over 5 pounds) she had to be pushed and pulled in an intricate process involving a vacuum and a number of other blinking and beeping machines. The moment I saw her little grey body, the silence in the room was palpable until she opened her eyes and squeaked her first noise and I knew then that I loved her more than anything. I didn't know that Steve had been watching MY face during her birth to see how he should be reacting (because he was was keeping his eyes UP on Jordana's face). I was given a little grief afterwards because I guess my face had been more 'expressive' than I'd intended.
