KERR, Dr. James Martin
November 20, 1930 - October 2, 2017
Passed peacefully at home at Swan Lake on October 2nd, 2017. Beloved husband of his soulmate and loving wife June "Junebug" (nee Cummins) after 63 years of marriage (high school sweethearts). Devoted father to Kathy Moore (Derrick), Karen McFarlane (John), and Laurie Kerr. Proud and caring "Grandpa Jim" to Jamie, Darryl, Emily, Bryan, Hollie, Will, and Amy. Jim will be deeply missed by his twin brother John and younger brother Bill. Pre-deceased by older brother David and sister-in-law Madge Kerr. Will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Jim has many loyal friends from his 3 favorite places in the world Rankin Lake, Maple Leaf Estates, and Swan Lake. He was a highly respected dentist practicing in Scarborough for 40 years. He was Chair Ameritas for Oral Health (Canada's top dental magazine) and was Chairman of the Editorial Board for many decades. As a past president and Paul Harris Fellow, he was a dedicated Rotarian for many years. As an outstanding athlete and North American and Canadian Squash champion, Jim was an avid runner, tennis player, and golfer. The family is grateful to the staff at Regional Nursing Services (Personal Support Workers) who went above and beyond the call of duty for many years. Visitation will be held at DIXON-GARLAND FUNERAL HOME, 166 Main St. N. (Markham Rd.), Markham on October 7, 2017 from 11am - 1pm. Service will follow at 1pm in the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Markham Stouffville Hospital or the Salvation Army.
