I am so sorry to hear of Ken's passing. My mom was so proud to be friends with you and your strong farming legacy. We couldn't pass your farm without her mentioning her friendship with you, Marion and I still give a little nod to your farm and the origins of our wonderful cat, Rufus, and the hamsters you so kindly gave me. Julie, Owen and Sarah, I am so sorry to hear, my heart just breaks for you guys. Ken was an amazing man and I likely wouldn't be where are I am today if it hadn't been for him. He was the one who introduced me to dairy farming and I have had a passion for the dairy industry ever since. It has led me to being a dairy 4h leader and to the career I have today. He will be greatly missed.

I did not know Ken, however, my husband Rick spoke of him often with great admiration. Rick enjoyed hearing the stories so proudly relayed by Ken of going down to visit son Owen in the U.S. where he was in a training program so tough to be accepted into (I hope I have that correct - sometimes the memory plays tricks on us), and about farming and the world of concrete. Ken attended Rick's Commemoration of Life in January and unfortunately I was not able to speak or visit with him but his attendance was greatly appreciated. I just know they will continue to swap stories about kids, family and concrete. My deepest sympathy to all of you. It is hard enough to lose our loved ones but when it is so tragically and unexpected we feel cheated. There is so much more life to have lived. But what I do know of Ken is that you should have many great memories to draw on and hopefully they will bring a smile to your face in time once again.

Oh Julie:) My dearest friend, sometimes my heart is so full with sadness I can't grasp the words to formulate to heal the pain, for you & for Sarah & for Owen. The incredible- unbelievable shock when we had just enjoyed an impromptu visit from you and Ken 18 hours before! But, I take a few breaths, and I think of Ken, of his " salt of the earth" demeanour, of how he would tease us of "flapping our gums"- when you and I would get together for a Royal Horse Show visit .Of how, he & I would have intriguing conversations of the " crop situation" this season... of caring for the cows, .. of the challenges & joys of teaching ( for me) . As Scott would say-we will miss that " 40 acre voice"- that had the ability to draw you in, and reassure you that he would look after things. Of the many meals we shared when I came over for a visit, and how Ken would often, quickly " gobble up his meal"- so he could get back out to the barn, or out to the field - so he could ultimately make more food for a mass of others. I will never look at another " farmers feed cities" sticker & not think of Ken. Julie, you and Ken created two wonderful human beings in Sarah & Owen, I have had the honour of watching them grow over the years & absorbing Ken's words of wisdom of raising children & his great love he has for them. In your most difficult moments that will come remember to find the essence of Ken who is still in a quiet gift in Sarah & Owen. Scott & I and Luna send our deepest love to you , and are forever thankful for you in our lives. Hold fast to each other and be gentle with your hearts. We are always near.
