Obituary of Maurice Lake
MAURICE (MO) ALBERT LAKE
Kind Heart - Fierce Mind - Brave Spirit
Maurice "Mo" Lake passed away peacefully at home on January 27 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Mo lived a rich and meaningful life with his wife of 54 years, Jo-Anne (Rankin), his London, Ontario high school sweetheart and kindred spirit, by his side. Jo-Anne will deeply miss her world travelling partner whose fearlessness led them on many adventures around the globe. Together they nurtured a loving family of three children: Michelle (Harry) Goslin, Sherri (Paul) Lake, and Jonathan (Lara) Lake. Maurice was a loving and supportive Grandpa/Papa to Benjamin, Noah, Avery, Spirit and Serenity. Maurice's legacy of kindness, respect, integrity and sense of fun will live on through his three children and five grandchildren. Maurice will be fondly remembered by his beloved sister-in-law, Marilyn (Dave) Thain and family, with whom he shared many happy family vacations. He is also survived by a brother and two sisters: Dave (Shirley) Lake, Diane (Jack) Beedle, Marian (Bob) Pierce; and pre-deceased by his father, George Lake, and mother, Alice Lake (Poole) from London, Ontario. Maurice never missed an opportunity to be outdoors; he was an avid golfer and skier, traveller, and enjoyed sitting by his backyard pond. He was a natural problem-solver, and his time at General Motors Institute laid the foundation for a successful engineering and business career. Maurice's other loves included music and dancing. He will be remembered by his family, friends, colleagues, and Phi Kappa Epsilon fraternity brothers, for his compassion, resilience, wit, and fun-loving nature. Maurice was a deep humanitarian who reached beyond his family to make the world a better place through his community service. Mo had an opportunity before he passed away to thank and embrace his medical team at Odette Cancer Centre, Sunnybrook Hospital. The family very much appreciates the warm and dignified care he received at Sunnybrook. As Maurice wished, cremation has taken place with no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Odette Cancer Centre https://donate.sunnybrook.ca/ or Pancreatic Cancer Canada at www.pancreaticcancercanada.ca. Family and friends are invited to join us for a Celebration of Life of Maurice on Saturday 8 April 2017 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Ashburn Sunroom at The Royal Ashburn Golf Club, 995 Myrtle Road West, Ashburn, Ontario Canada, LOB 1AO. www.royalashburngolfclub.com. A tree will be planted in the wetlands at The Royal Ashburn Golf Club in memory of Maurice.
