Obituary of Joy Henderson

Joy Carolyn Henderson, was born to the late H.R. and Carolyn Thomas on October 20th 1929. She passed away peacefully at the Markham Stouffville Hospital on April 30th 2016 in her 87th year. She was predeceased (2012) by her loving husband of 62 years, Robert James (Bob). Joy was a loving mother to her two sons Wayne and Craig (Carol - the daughter she always wanted). Always Nana to her beloved grandchildren Nicole, Sean (Fiancée Karen) and Rob. Joy was a long time resident of Main Street Markham. She led a long, active and fulfilling life. Over the years she had a wide variety of interests and participated in a full spectrum of activities: bowling (both alley and lawn), a bit of curling, dressmaking, antique collecting/refinishing, restoring some lustre to the old 'Wideman' house, gardening, cards (bridge, cribbage and euchre) and travelling/sightseeing. In her later years, she was an active member/volunteer at 'Older Adults in Action' and spent countless hours knitting warm hats for premature babies or blankets for the Linus Project. She certainly lived up to her name by spreading the 'Joy' and we will all miss her dearly. According to her wishes, a private cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Covenant House or the charity of your choice. In remembrance of the 'Joy' she brought to all of us, the family will be hosting a drop-in reception for those who wish to join in: Date: Saturday May 14, 2016 Time: 1:00 - 4:00 P.M. Location: 175 Main Street North, Markham Parking: Those with mobility needs may park in the driveway. All others should park on the street (good luck!) or across the road in the Dixon-Garland Funeral Home parking lot (with their gracious permission).
