Obituary of Doris Henry

Henry, Doris (Nee Martin) Peacefully on Thursday April 14th after a courageous battle with cancer. Survived by her loving husband James, beloved mother of Priscilla, Elizabeth ( Robert ), James , Dorothy ( Kent), Marjorie ( Dean ), Margaret ( Mike), Pauline ( Peter ), John. Loving grandmother of eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Born in Albany, PEI on March 10th, 1929, she moved to Toronto in 1951 where she met and married her husband in 1953. She was an amazing mother to her 8 children and always made their home a special place, always filled with the aroma of her delicious baking and cooking. She was welcoming and generous and had a wonderful sense of humor. In her presence, everyone felt her love. Together, Jim and Doris raised their family in Toronto and in 1988 they moved to Markham. For a time Doris worked for the Ministry of Children's Services at Queens Park, and was loved by all for her kind and friendly nature. She had a very special relationship with her Lord and taught her children to love and honor God. Special thanks to Dr. Patterson and the Palliative care team at Markham Stouffville hospital for their compassionate and professional care. She will be forever missed but always in our hearts. Absent from the body, present with The Lord. Visitation will be held at DIXON-GARLAND FUNERAL HOME at 166 Markham N. (Markham Road), Markham, on Tuesday April 19th, from 1pm until time of service in the chapel at 2pm. Refreshments to follow. Interment Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
