I got to know Mary (& Rich) when I met and became fast friends with Carol in grade seven at Don Mills Junior High School. I have many, many wonderful memories of hanging out at the house at 4 Winchfield Place, where Mary took me in as one of her own. Mary taught Carol and I how to sew and I remember how we would spend hours in that Don Mills basement cutting patterns and sewing our first dresses - while watching what became our favourite soap opera, Another World. I remember fondly those shopping excursions with Mary to fabric stores and to Parkhurst to find deals on sweaters. In those earlier days, I was fortunate to be invited on holidays and excursions with the Wattersons to Myrtle Beach, the Robson’s cottage in Wasaga Beach and of course trips to the Fishing Club. Later on when Mary and Rich wintered in Florida, I went with Carol to visit them there. Both Mary and Rich always made me feel so welcome and a part of their family. Mary loved life, she loved her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, mother and friend to all that knew her. She will be greatly missed by all of us that had the opportunity to know her. My heartfelt condolences to Greg, Joanne and Carol, Kathy, Frank and Paul and all her wonderful grandchildren. She will Iive on through all of you. Thank you, Mary. I know I was so fortunate to be a part of your life and I will always be grateful to you for you love, kindness and support you gave me over the years. May you rest in peace. Love, Nicola

Greg, Kathy and the Watterson family, our sincere condolences on the passing of your Mom. All though I didn't know Mary that well when we meet I thought she was very kind and funny. I remember at Kathy's shower she arrived late due to the fact that she has been sprayed by a skunk and even that didn't stop her from making those delicious Nanaimo bars for the shower. She laughed off the smell and had a good time anyway. When ever I saw her she was always smiling and having fun. Nice lady. Our prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Hi Grandma, it’s Katelyn… I was recently traveling in the Italian Alps and thought of you often. The mountains are so breathtaking yet peaceful and while I was taking in the views at the top of the mountain, I saw two birds flying together. I felt your presence and knew you had been reunited with Grandpa. It brought tears to my eye but also a smile as I knew you were back with your soul mate. I will dearly miss your letters and life teachings and lessons. I still remember as a little girl when you taught my girlfriends and me how to sew. But I now realize you were teaching me so much more all along, from friendship to love to the importance of family and friends. You inspire me in so many ways and I look forward to carrying on your legacy of kindness and graciousness. Thank you for so many special memories, you will always be in my thoughts and prayers. Please give Grandpa a kiss and a hug for me, Katelyn

In the 50s & 60s I had the pleasure of growing up as a child on Veery Place, a small cul-de-sac in the newly-formed neighborhood of Don Mills. The street was full of kids from many families that enjoyed playing on the street from dusk-till-dawn. It was such a great environment for the children in the neighbourhood, mostly thanks to the efforts taken by the parents like Mrs. Watterson to make sure the children were playing safely and having fun, and of course keeping us whippersnappers out of trouble. Unfortunately most of the original Veery Place parents from the 50s and 60s are no longer with us, and I was saddened today to learn that Mrs. Watterson had passed away. Mary was a wonderful lady, very friendly and caring to all the kids on the street. I clearly recall Mary and the other moms of Veery congregating on the street to keep each other up-to-date on the latest gossip, while at the same time keeping a close eye on all the kids. As most of us have learned, it takes a neighbourhood to raise a child, and Mary was a big part of that on Veery Place. My condolences go out to Carol, Joanne, Greg, her extended family & friends.

We're very sorry to have heard that Mary passed away. I first met her over 35 years ago as a teenager (as a friend of her daughter Carol), and little did I know she would end up becoming my mother in law someday! Mary was always very kind to me, and accepted me quickly and easily into her family, as did her husband Rich. In addition, she was always kind to and much liked by the entire Klym family. My thoughts are with the extended Watterson family at this time, especially her daughter Carol (my wife), her daughter Joanne, and her son Greg. Thinking of you all. Goodbye Mary, you will be missed. With love, -- Paul Klym Vancouver, BC

Carol, We are so sorry about your mom, and are thinking of you and your whole family. We know it has been a tough few weeks especially, but we are so glad that you were here as that will hopefully give you some measure of comfort that you and the girls were able to see her. Love, Mark and Nicole
