I sat next to Alex in photography class in the fall/winter of 2012. He had such a kind and stoic presence to him. It's been almost 11 years, I'm 27 now, but I still find myself thinking about Alex from time to time. I remember making him crack up after telling him a funny story. I remember him being someone who seemed strong yet gentle. I remember him being someone you could feel comfortable around. I remember him being someone who you'd like to know.
I suppose I'm writing this to remind the family that no matter what, Alex will always be remembered. I wish you nothing but peace and happiness.

I`m thinking of you every day buddy, it`s just not the same without you around. I am no poet, or writer, but as a friend a can say that you are missed. I think about you a lot, I know you are swimming and flying your RC helicopters in a better place but it just is not the same down here without you. I just wished you had more time. You will always be in our memories and hearts.

I remembered Alex as a creative builder at the childcare. He liked to build with big blocks, small blocks and colored blocks. His creation was always so amazing and unique. Often his friends would be attracted by his creation and joined in the play. This was how he became a leader in play. He was always proud of his creations by showing them off to his teachers and friends along with a bright smile on his face. He owned a pair of sparkling eyes as if they could talk. Arriving at childcare with a bright smile has made my days easy. Alex was also a very energetic boy. His outdoor play was always about running around and climbing up and down. I will never forget Alex and his bright smile. I trust that he is in God's hands and faith will take the family through this time. Be strong and take courage.

I met Alex, his brother and his parents when they were on vacation in Paris, where I live. It was a real pleasure to spend some time with them, giving them advice and recommending places to visit. Alex was pretty shy at first, but became a little more talkative and revealed his sense of humor and his curiosity for the city from as the evening went on. He was a pleasant young man to talk with.
I remember how good it felt for me to see the unity of this family, and my heart is broken to hear their of loss.

As I was sitting through the service for Alex Mayer, I found myself asking, "Why did I want to be here?" I did not know Alex personally. He was a boy in the neighbourhood whom I occasionally saw. I had spoken to his mom no more than a handful of times, probably even less.
Driving home, I found the answer. I went because his life mattered. Even if I didn't know him, he was somebody and I needed to acknowledge that. I care and am saddened that he is gone and did not get the chance to become the man that he could have become.
There was nothing I could do for him except to be there to say good-bye. I needed him to know that he had not been merely a grain of insignificant sand, but that he was an important speck that helped to make up this vast beautiful beach. And now that he is a star in heaven, the night sky will be gloriously brighter because of his light.
I know his memory will be kept alive by those whose lives he had touched; and by those like me, who were touched by his passing. I am heartbroken that he is gone. I pray his family will find strength. I am so sorry for their loss.

Alex's smile, ability to make anyone laugh and determination are three things I will never forget. Because of his love for model helicopters and planes and determination I got the chance to know him. When he was in Grade 8 and 9 my mom paid him to walk and wait with me at the bus stop everyday after school at Central Park Public School. He was very responsible and never forgot me. After a while I got to know him I discovered how laid back, responsible and funny Alex was and as he got to know me he realized, well as he put it, "Man… I don't get paid enough for this." I am glad I got to know him and I will never forget his jokes, his kindness or his smile.

Even though I have known Alex since third grade, I was never extremely close with him. I can clearly remember though, especially in eighth grade onwards, how he was always building and taking apart remote controlled machines; he had curiosity and talent for mechanics. He was always trying to make something bigger and better. It will be extremely hard going into my Chemistry class and not seeing him there. As Sameer said, although a lot of us didn't know him well, he was part of the fabric of our classes, grade, and school. I send all my regards to his family, and may he rest in peace.

While we were away one week Alex agreed to rake our mountain of leaves. We forgot to mention this to our young neighbours who were taking care of our cats. They were in the house when tall, broad shouldered Alex came and rummaged through our shed and garage looking for appropriate tools. Frantic phone calls ensued all without his knowledge. Several minutes later poor Alex who was now diligently raking leaves found himself face to face with the local police. He said nothing to us! We only found out much later from our neighbours. Typical Alex gave us his patented smile when we brought it up.
Alex aka Bob, we will remember you always for so many different things: for being our daughter's babysitter and chum, for the friendship you shared with our son, for the camaraderie we felt with you as we talked of so many things from swimming, school, science projects, the Beast, food recommendations from Wendy's to good pizzas in New York City and of course all things technology or robotics related.
So many images are conjured in our heads when we think of you Alex. The most enduring and endearing is that shy half smile that you are so want to wear. It is a good reflection of you - quiet, confident and self assured coupled with a love for fun and humour.
It seems so unfair that you were taken away from us when you had so much potential and so much life ahead of you but we are glad we knew you for however short the time as you blessed and enriched our lives in ways that we will always treasure. Be in peace. Alice, Ken, Alex and Rachel

I remember Alex from Central Park Public School. He stood out to me because his older brother Chris and my daughter had been friends and classmates. Alex and my younger daughter were in the same split grade 5/6 class; he was a year older. He was the spitting image of his brother Chris except he was smaller and skinnier. Whenever I used to see him dashing from school, I'd say to myself, "There goes Chris' brother; first one out." He seemed like a mischievous little boy because there always appeared to be a glint in his big brown eyes. He'd avert his gaze when I glanced at him as if he didn't want anyone to know he was up to something. And then he grew taller and bigger and many a times, I'd wonder whether he was Alex or his brother Chris because they looked so much alike; except Alex always seemed to be bursting with energy. There must have been something special about him because he made an impression on me; and although I only knew him from a distance, I remember him well.

Alex was always a good friend. I remember years ago, in swimming when we were in the same group, Alex was usually the fastest in my lane. He would always be setting the arduous pace for me and the other swimmers, and several times we tried to pass him, but with no luck: His perseverance was an inspiration.
As in the pool he also was always the first one out of the change room and waiting for everyone else to join him in the carpool. Like in practice I would try to beat him out of the change room, but again speed was his strong suit.
May his memory be eternal.

Alex, I did not go to your elementary school but when I first entered your science class in grade 9, I knew immediately that you would be a great guy; you were laughing with your friends and talking about radio controlled vehicles. You made everything a lot of fun, I sat next to you and furthermore had the privilage of being in your science fair group. Your hands on abilities blew the minds of Jawad and I when you were able to weld and create a projectile for science in a matter of hours. You then showed me more about radio controlled vehicles and got me interested in the subject, so interested that i went out and purchased one because of you. It brought me hours of fun, I am so glad that I was there to be able to learn this from you. Furthermore, in grade 10, I had the privilege of being in your math class. I have many memories of you showing me new cool things on your laptop and competing with each other for grades. I really loved your sense of humour, you made even the longest of lectures manageable with your jokes. Finally, this year I was fortunate enough to be in your english class, you really did make the class a better place and I always wanted to be in your group. You really impressed me with your extreme computer capabilities and your hands on abilities. I will never forget how you could make me smile every day, all the amazing things you have taught me to do, your sense of humour, and dedication to all the work you did. Alex's way to learn anything was to do it, he would never settle for simply being taught something. He was a hands on learner, unique and very special. At the end of Grade 6, he gave me a card; it was a singing card with Charlie Brown on it. Inside the card, Alex had written: "Thank you for letting me be who I am." I treasure the wisdom in his words. Each year since then, that card is on the bulletin board behind my desk in my classroom. I regretted that Alex has not been the kind of student to come and visit his past teachers, but he is an unforgettable student for me. I had looked forward to running into him at 20 years old, 30 years old and on. It breaks my heart to hear this news.

Though I never had the chance to meet Alex, my heart goes out to him in heaven and all of his family, for this is more that anyone can really handle. I am sorry, but I think everyone who got to know him is blessed and I know his memory will never be gone. For me he was just another boy I would see in the hallways, but for everyone i now know got to know him better, and there are many, he will forever be remembered as a loyal, kind and "Amazing" (word used by Ian Millard) friend, a smart, talented and humble student, a brother to look up to and a loving son. His soul is pure and heart is full, and in his life he has already left so many great things behind in the short time, and i am very sad that i only learned of him just too late.

It happened so sudden and so swift that life once again shows its capricious twists. I've held Alex dearly in my daily Buddhist chant. I wish for his soul be rested in peace and eternity. As a good friend of Ivan, Alex will always stay in my prayers.

I didn't know Alex very well, but our grade and school are a tight-knit group and I think I speak for all of us when I say that the we are all profoundly shaken and shocked at the loss of Alex. He was a part of the fabric of our school that made it unique, special and fun and now to realize we’ll no longer see him in the halls, or in class has not even begun to sink in. My heart goes out to Alex’s family, as I cannot begin to imagine what they are going through right now. He was loved by everyone and teacher, staff member, student or member of the larger community all will miss him greatly. On that Friday our Graduating Class of 2014 lost a valued member, and I can only say that we will remain in all of our hearts upon graduation and beyond. He was a part of our family here at Markville Secondary, and I can say I’m proud to be able to say I was Alex’s classmate. May he rest in peace, for he is in a better place now.

It is such an immense shame to lose Alex. His entire grade 11 physics class will miss him dearly. Alex loved electronics and RC helicopters and had a great friend in Ivan who sat next to him. A quiet student who was always so polite and patient. It brings tears to my eyes when I think of his passing. Such a loss. My condolences to his family and loved ones. His passing touched me deeply. I will remember him as will his classmates. Words don't express my emotion. I will miss him.
