We were very sorry to hear of Derek's passing. He fought illness with great courage and was an example to anyone who had the privilege to know him. He was a friend you could count on in times of difficulty and he will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. In the words of the Irish saying, "A good friend is like a four leaf clover, hard to find and lucky to have."

Dear Derek, You always made me laugh. Always. You had the best way of telling a story and your smile will forever stay with me, it was so infectious. I was so excited to meet the Callender family when I fell in love with Ray.... Not only did I find family but developed lasting friendships as well. I thank you for that...the gift of friendship. I will miss the laughter I would hear from Ray every time he read your emails. They meant so much to him. God speed my friend, until we meet again. Love Marie

Derek, Thank you for being a friend but most importantly, the best step grandpa that I could've asked for. I will miss our emails back and forth as they always put a smile on my face. Visiting you last week and chatting as we held hands for over an hour will always be in my heart and I will always feel your hand in mine. You were a very special man to many and will most certainly never be forgotten. Rest in peace Derek, I love you. Love always, Cassie
