I was deeply saddened to hear of Al's passing. I only met him briefly but I have heard a lot of great talk about him. He sounded like a man with a big heart who shared his love with whomever was lucky enough to be in his life. We are thinking of all the family today especially Kim, and sending our hugs and prayers.

Back in the mid to late 1970's, I was fortunate to have been friends with Al along with others that lived in Agincourt and my memories some thirty years later are of the fun times we had together. Often times it was just the camararderie of running around in Rollie's Mazda, or taking a midnight drive to the "Merc" in downtown Toronto for fries and gravy. In particular, Rick Noble, Al and I took off for a week in Florida in May 1977 before we started our summer jobs. We laughed, we played, we hung out and, at least I, got miserably sunburned. But most of all I'll remember Al's enormous belly laugh....we just wanted to live life to the fullest.
Rest well my friend,
Stu Chinnery.

I have WONDERFUL memories of Al and our high school crew back in the day: Rick, Scott, Jeff, Geoff, Rollie, just to name a few. We started our journeys on this earth in the same year, and it saddens me to see his ending so soon. My sincerest thoghts with all of his family, and to our mutual friends who knew you from Mac

I too met Al in high school and knew him to be a warm genuine soul. He had a natural gift for summing up any situation with a quick quip and a hearty chuckle. I so loved that about him. Although I have not seen Al for awhile, due to a move out west, anytime I ran into him it was like I was never gone. A big hug and my sincerest condolences to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed. Karen Ashbee

I first met Al in 1965 -- 50 years ago. My family had moved into 8 Kilkenny Drive in Agincourt and Al's lived across the street at #1. That area proved to be a gold mine of lifelong friends for me, with Al being a key member of a small group of guys that now share a long and rich common history. From 3rd grade on up, I have countless great memories of Al that include football, Halloween pranks, skiing, breaking into the HMCS Haida (and getting caught), first cars (Al's was a VW Beetle), vacations, first beers, girlfriends, cottages, having kids, divorce -- everything that life has to offer.
Al was always the guy with the quick smile and ability to find good in things. I remember going through a particularly tough time a number of years back, which Al must have heard about because he called me one day to talk. He never actually brought up the issues I was facing, but at the end of the call he simply said "You realize I have your back, right"? That statement had an enormous and immediate positive impact on me at a time when I really needed the support. I've never forgotten it and I never will.
I saw Al in May when we both attended a memorial service in Toronto. He was the same as always -- happy, positive and easy to be around. Although I hadn't seen him for a couple of years, it was as if it had only been a couple of days. I never dreamt that would be the last time I saw him.
Al, I can't believe you are gone. The world is a lessor place today, but I feel privileged to have called you my friend.
