Obituary of Rudolf Hoevelmann

Rudolf (Rudi) Hoevelmann January 8, 1940 - October 18, 2015 Cancer has finally conquered a strong, kind and generous husband, father, grandfather, friend and employer. Rudi passed away in the presence of his family at Markham Stouffville Hospital. He is greatly missed by his devoted wife of 51 years, Dale (nee Holdsworth), his loving daughter Donna, and cherished granddaughters, Mara and Emily. Predeceased by his sister, Ingrid Balzer, of Germany. He will be remembered affectionately by family and friends in Canada and in Germany. Everyone who knew him loved him for his caring and giving spirit and his sense of humour After emigrating from Germany in 1960, Rudi worked diligently to build up his machine tooling business and establish a home in his adopted country. His employees remained loyal to him as a fair and caring employer. He was proud of his home and garden, cultivating some unusual plants including an orange tree which was his favourite. He fought hard to control his cancer, continuing to work while receiving chemotherapy and radiation. Few people knew of his challenges. The family wishes to acknowledge the support of many friends and relatives as his illness spread and made him more dependent. . Visitation will be held at the DIXON-GARLAND FUNERAL HOME, 166 Main Street N. (Markham Road), Markham on Friday, October 23 from 6-9 p.m. Funeral Service to take place at Central United Church, 131 Main Street, Unionville, on Saturday, October 24 at 3 p.m. Reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.dixongarland.com. Say not in grief, "He is no more"
