During World War 2, living in Holland, there was not much magic in the lives of children, and so we made
our own. My older sister, Hannie, introduced me to the fantasy world of elfs and gnomes, except I did
not know that it was fantasy. In our backyard we had some old trees with openings at the bottom of these
trees, with dark holes at the start of the roots. That is where the gnomes lived. We would leave notes, and
sometimes a crust of bread or such, usually in the everning. Then in the morning there would be a note
from them and I would be so exited. Then one day I left a note all by myself, and in the morning it was still
there, the gnomes had not read or answered it. Hannie saved the day by convincing me that she had to
be involved with these communications.
She was a nice sister, and with her passing goes a great part of my childhood. I miss being able to talk
to her, so I still do, and I thank her for the many good memories.

HONOURING JOHANNA
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Johanna's Memorial Site. She has touched all of us and many others with her kindness and friendliness {no pun intended} We were original residents of the Boardwalk Condos in 1999.
When my Wife Margo became ill in 2003 Sharon and Johanna provided transportation to medical appointments. Margo died in 2005.
Some time later Johanna offered to help me with transportation as I had lost my licence because of vision impairment. We enjoyed a happy relationship - attending parties, sharing meals, watching TV & events. She had several falls, the last and most serious occurred early this year. She never recovered. Johanna didn't fear death as she believed in life after death. Hopefully she will be spiritually united with her Husband Douglas who died 18 years ago. The
Presentation, prepared by Sharon & Tom, attracted much attentionfrom Amica residents. One lady commented that she had enjoyed Johanna in the Swan Lake Ladies Bible group.
Thank you for your prayers.
Love
Max

I can't think of my Tante Hannie and not smile. She was always a wonderful person to be around. I have many fond memories of her and my mother chattering away in Dutch and laughing at who knows what. I can still recall vividly in my mind 40 years ago when she visited my family in Maryland and she challenged me to a ping pong game in my basement. I remember thinking she would be easy to beat, but she definitely gave me a run for my money. She was such a fun loving person and just always had a wonderful wit about her. I also recall that she was so very interested in viewing and caring for the birds outside her one home, I would like to think that is where my interest of birds has come from. The world was definitely a better place with her in it. She will be missed. Much love to her 2 wonderful sons, their wives and their children.
