Obituary of Peter Checkeris

CHECKERIS, Peter James - It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Peter James Checkeris who passed on Thursday, July 9th, 2015 in Stouffville, Ontario surrounded by his loved ones. Peter was born at Women's College Hospital, Toronto on April 10th 1932. He was the youngest of three boys born to Angela and James Checkeris. Peter was very active throughout his life. He enjoyed participating in many sports including hockey, bicycling, basketball and baseball. He instilled in his children and grandchildren a love of the 'Game' and was a devoted Toronto Maple Leaf's fan. Peter had a very strong work ethic starting with a paper route and delivering meat for Duguid's Butcher while still in school. He went on to a successful career in the lumber business. He enjoyed listening to music and was a keen musician he often spoke about playing the alto sax in school. He was always curious, a life long learner and an innovator of practical devices. Peter was very proud of his Greek heritage and a very patriotic Canadian. He will be forever remembered for his ready smile, quick wit and open friendly nature. Peter is survived by his wife Marleen, his three daughters Jennifer, Melanie, and Sarah; his three son-in-laws Don, Ron and Russell; his grandchildren Mitchell, Allistair, Riley and Danika; and his brother William. Peter was a beloved uncle and friend.
