Obituary of Madeline Gibson
Gibson, Madeline Hope Brydon
The most wonderful mom, grandma, great-grandma and friend passed away at Hill House Hospice in Richmond Hill, on February 24, 2015. She was 3 weeks short of her 90th birthday. Madeline was born to the late Franklin and Hilda (Reid) Brydon in Somerset, Nova Scotia. She met her husband Peter when he was stationed in Halifax during the war. They settled in Agincourt and raised their family and founded Gibson Jewelers. Mom and Dad always loved horses and in 1973 built a new home on 8 acres in rural Markham. With their two horses they were very involved in the Ontario Trail Riders Association. Mom loved nature, particularly birding, politics, current affairs and quilting. She was actively involved in church activities for many decades. Madeline was predeceased by her husband Peter Gibson (2007) and her daughter Nancy (1993). She is survived by Alan of Victoria Harbour, Susan (Roger Clark) of Acton, Norma (Bruce MacDonald) of Burlington and Rod of Stouffville. Grandchildren Sarah (Darron Baston) and their children Avery and Kyle, Lauren (Chris Monteith) and Auden, Elliot and Connor, Paul (Susie Shurtleff) and Evie, Robin Schavo, Ian MacDonald (Sarah Willert) and Reid MacDonald. Mom also leaves behind a half-brother Harold Brydon (Beulah) of Somerset, NS. Mom was the last of her generation on both sides of our family. She was predeceased by her brothers Louis, Newton and Francis, her sister Norma and our father's siblings and their spouses. Family and friends may visit at DIXON-GARLAND FUNERAL HOME, 166 Main St. N., Markham (905) 294-2030 on Thursday, February 26, 2015 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
