Obituary of Mabel Springthorpe

SPRINGTHORPE, Mabel Loretta (nee Coughlin); With great sadness we announce the passing of Mabel on November 9, 2014 at the Markham Stouffville Hospital. She was born September 24, 1924 on a farm near Bateman, Saskatchewan; attended Regina Normal School and taught for two years before attending the University of Saskatchewan. She graduated with a bachelor of Household Science; then to Toronto for an internship at St. Michael's and a job at Riverdale Hospitals, and finally Director of Dietetics at Scarborough General Hospital until retirement. Mabel and Murray were married in 1979 and spent many happy years at Swan Lake. Mabel loved traveling, playing bridge, spending weekends at their trailer and visiting her many friends. Mabel was predeceased by her parents Arnold and Maude Coughlin and husband Murray Springthorpe. She is lovingly remembered by Sister Edna Hill of Victoria; Stepson Robert Springthorpe; Niece Judy Oberg and Nephew William Hill and their families; Sister-in-law Dorothy Wilson and family. Special thanks go to friends Sandy and Al Granger for all their help and comfort during Mabel's last weeks. Family and friends may visit at DIXON-GARLAND FUNERAL HOME, 166 Main St. N., Markham, ON (905) 294-2030 on Friday, November 21, 2014 from 12 - 1pm with a Memorial Service in the Chapel at 1 o'clock. Interment Grace Anglican Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Fund would be appreciated.
