Obituary of John Copp

COPP, John Hedley - On Sunday, September 28, 2014 after a lengthy illness, John passed away at Sunnybrook Hospital in the Veterans Wing in his 92 year. He was a retired District Chief for the City of Toronto Fire Department. He retired after 38 years of faithful service. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force from November 1, 1941 to February 5, 1946. He was in the 436 Burma Star Squadron. He was a FLT Lieutenant during WW11. He received the 1939-1945 Star, Burma Star Canadian Volunteer and Service Medal and Clasp, Pilot's Flying Badge. He was Past Master of Coronation Lodge in Weston, Ontario and also appointed special aide with the Rameses Shrine Temple of Toronto and he also belonged to the Jesters. He was predeceased by his wife Marguerite Helen and his sisters Adeline, Viola, Lillian and Mary. Father of Lynne (Jack, deceased), John (Jenny) and Susan. Grandfather of Kirk (Michelle), Mark (Connie), Derek (Janet), Shannon (Eric), Jeffrey (Erin), Kimberley (Sean), Christian, Corrina and Cassandra. Great grandfather of Ryan, Spencer, Parker, Makenna, Victoria, Rebecca, Trey, Nathan, Abigail, Natalie, Madelyn, Graham, Jacob and Alexander. He will be missed by his companion Lucille Opperman. Friends will be received at the DIXON-GARLAND FUNERAL HOME, 166 Main Street N. (Markham Road) Markham on Monday, October 6, 2014 visitation from 11 - 1 p.m. with Funeral Service in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sunnybrook Foundation Veterans Centre or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
