Obituary of Laura McKinnon

McKinnon, (White), Laura Eleanor Dorothy - Died peacefully at Union Villa May 15, 2014 after a lengthy illness at the age of 95. Born November 28, 1918. Loving mother of Diane Davies (Bob). Grandmother of Lesley (Guy) and Cheryl (Rick) and proud great-grandmother of Jacob, Natalie, Lucas and Melina, she will be missed. Youngest of 5 children by 10 years she remained in the home in Ceylon Ontario until her mother died when she was 19. She married Alex McKinnon at the age of 21 and had a daughter Diane at the age of 22. Widowed at 50 she stayed independent, living in her house on Windermere Avenue with a boarder until she was 87. She loved to dance and joined a weekend dance club; she also loved country and western music traveling to Nashville many times. At the age of 87 she moved into an assisted living senior's residence in Unionville to be closer to her daughter, Diane and grandchildren. In the last 3 years when she needed heaver assistance she was accepted into Union Villa next door, where she lived her last days. We are thankfully to the staff at the Villa that gave her loving support in her final days. We live with the memory of all the parties we had with her at that facility. Friends will be received at the DIXON-GARLAND Funeral Home, 166 Main Street N. (Markham Road) on Friday May 23rd for a time of reflection at 11am until time of Memorial Service in the chapel at 12 noon with reception to follow. In memory of Laura memorial donations to Unionville Home Society or the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated.
