They moved to Whitby where Jack was employed at the Ontario Hospital as a stationary engineer. In 1947 they moved to Eden Mills, where Jack worked as a truck driver for the Ontario Dept of Health. While at Eden Mills Eileen wrote a weekly column for the Markham Economist and Sun, titled "A Letter from Lucy." In it she told of life in a small village, the adventures of her children and the activities of school, church, and other community organizations. Jack went back to stationary engineering in 1955 and the family moved to Markham. Eileen resumed her career as a stenographer and worked for the Markham Region of Ontario Hydro, and later for Central Region. After she and Jack retired they spent their summers at the cottage on Angle Lake in Dwight, and their winters at Old Bridge Park in Fort Myers, Florida. For health reasons they moved to Union Villa a few years before Jack's death in 1998. Eileen has continued to live there ever since.
