Obituary of Alexander Walter

May 23, 1947- January 1, 2025

Alex Walter was born in Bucharest, Romania, on May 23, 1947. In December of 1976, he and his beloved wife, Audrey, made the courageous decision to immigrate to Canada. Motivated by a desire to leave behind the restrictions of an oppressive communist regime, Alex sought to create a better future for his family, one filled with opportunity and hope. Alex and Audrey created a life rooted in love and sacrifice, raising two daughters, Aileen (MacInnes) and Wendy (Campbell).

Alex’s professional journey reflected his intelligence, dedication, and meticulous nature. He built a successful career as an engineer, working first at Ontario Hydro and later at Imperial Oil, where he remained until his retirement. Through his work, he exemplified his unwavering commitment to excellence and his belief in the principle: “If something is worth doing, it is worth doing right.”

Alex was a man of exceptional character- kind, honest, compassionate, and noble. His strong sense of integrity guided every aspect of his life. He found joy in the simple and beautiful things- such as a walk in nature or the sight of a beautiful flower. He was unfailingly cheerful and optimistic, a steady source of light and strength for those who knew him.

Alex’s greatest purpose and joy in his life was his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who gave selflessly and worked tirelessly to provide for and protect those he loved. Alex and Audrey’s love story began when they were just four years old and blossomed as they grew. They dated throughout university and went on to share more than 55 beautiful years of marriage, standing by one another through life’s triumphs and challenges. Alex had four grandchildren whom he loved tremendously- Alex Campbell, Katie Campbell, Matthew MacInnes, and Emma MacInnes. Alex was also very close to his sons-in-law, Doug and Sean, whom he took into his family and treated as his own children.

Alex passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, at the age of 77, following a long and courageously fought battle with dementia. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Union Villa for their outstanding care of our Dad. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to Union Villa, 4300 Highway 7, Markahm, Ontario, L3R 1L8.

Alex’s legacy is one of love, integrity, and selfless devotion. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
