John Doyle

Obituary of John Doyle

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of John Doyle on December 22, 2024. He passed away peacefully at home cared for by his family. He fought his battle with cancer with strength, bravery, and dignity. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbour. He touched the lives of those around him in positive and memorable ways.

John was born in Northern England where he spent his childhood to early adulthood. He started his career as an apprentice fitter/turner and worked hard enough to be admitted to an equivalent educational route until he was sponsored by his company to go to University for Engineering. He graduated with first class honours, an accomplishment he was proud of. While he attended City University in London, UK, he met the love of his life Vivien Huett. He had a long career as a professional engineer having worked for ICI, CIL, and eventually he started his own consulting firm. His career allowed him to travel the world and live in the UK, Germany and Canada with his family. Eventually, Vivien and his girls would call Canada home. He enjoyed traveling, time with friends and family, being involved in his church community, loving his dog and later his granddogs, a good whisky, and the second love of his life; golf. He was especially proud of all his grandchildren and their accomplishments. He also had close relationships with his nieces and nephews, many who came for visits to Canada. Through all these experiences there were many happy memories with all the people in his life. He cherished his family, friends, and fun. He is survived by his wife Vivien; his daughter Nicola (Steve) and his grandchildren Robert and James; his daughter Jennifer and his grandchildren Mackenzie, Thomas, and Sacha and their father Philippe; and his siblings Mary, Fran (Matty), Peter (Diane); brother-in-laws Mike, Bruce, and sister-in-laws Vivienne, Angela (Keith), Linda and Marian and his many nephews and nieces. He joins in heaven his siblings Nicky and Lilian, Philip, his brother-in-law John, as well as his parents, friends, and beloved pets that have gone before him. It is our greatest hope that they are reunited in peace.

His family would like to thank all the staff involved in his care, especially Dr. Trinkaus, Dr. Yang, and Dr. Yuen at MSH, the Cancer team at MSH, Dr. Lily Chen (Markham Family Health Team), Dr. Waddell at TGH, Dr. Kassam at Southlake, Dr. Sethna, the palliative care at home team, and all the many nursing and support staff over this challenging journey. Thank you to all those who have reached out already in kindness.
