Obituary of Margaret Florence Maynard

Our family is very sad to announce the death of Margaret (Marg) Maynard (nee Harman), affectionately known to her grandchildren as “Gram”.

Our dear Margaret and Gram passed away after a brief illness peacefully at approximately 5:30am October 1, 2024, shortly after her 92nd birthday on September 27th. Margaret was the daughter of George and Flossie Harman and was raised in the town of Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ontario, along with her 11 siblings.  Marg was a devoted wife to her predeceased husband Allan Ray Maynard (Red) who passed away in 1991.

After her marriage to Allan in February of 1948, Marg moved to Markham to raise her 6 children: Shirley, Sue, Diane, Michael, Cathy and Terri where she resided in the same home until 2024, over 75 years!  Marg was a loving grandmother to 16 children, great grandmother of 21 and remarkably a great great grandmother of 5.  Marg was a strong & independent lady and will be fondly remembered by all who met her for her infectious laughter, funny wit and vivacious personality, she will be deeply missed!

Marg will be laid to rest on October 12th along side of her husband at Highland Memory Gardens in North York. Per Margs’ wishes, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Markham Food Bank where she volunteered in her spare time for many years. 

We send our sincere appreciation to the compassionate health care workers of the Peterborough Regional Health Centre who attended to Marg in her final days. 

We wish to extend our gratitude to everyone for their support and heartfelt messages of condolences, it has been very comforting and greatly appreciated during this most challenging time.
