Obituary of John K. Sahlani
John K. Sahlani
December 22, 1936 – September 30, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Sahlani, who left us on September 30, 2024, at the age of 87. He passed peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family at Grace Emergency Centre.
Born on December 22, 1936 in a small town in the mountains of Lebanon he spent his youth surrounded by his loving parents (Khalil and Hanny) and siblings (Labib, Habib, Mahib, Mahiba, Michel) before moving to Beirut. From a young age John was blessed with incredible skill and talent in mechanics, rebuilding truck engines so they’d run more efficiently atop the mountains of his hometown.
His intelligence and business acumen resulted in his owning and operating a successful mechanics shop for decades, both in Lebanon and then here in Canada when he and his family were forced to flee the civil war that erupted in 1975.
John was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Nahi. They were married on the 16th of October 1966 and together they built a life full of love, happiness, and respect. They were blessed with four children (Charles, Arlette, Sandrella, Jason) who brought great pride and happiness to their lives.
John was a beloved member of the Our Lady of Lebanon Church community, dedicating time and energy to help in any way he could. Those who knew him best will remember John for his warmth, humour, wit, intelligence, passion, and larger than life personality that would fill whatever room he was in. His presence brought comfort and joy to all around him.
John is survived by his loving wife Nahi, his children Charles, Arlette, Sandrella, and Jason, his two sons-in-law Alla and Peter, his two daughters-in-law Susan and Kristen, his eight grandchildren (John-Luke, James, Jesse, Brandon, Thomas, Vivienne, Julian, and Arlo) and many other beloved family members and dear friends. He was predeceased by both his parents, his sister Mahiba, and two brothers, Mahib and Habib.
The viewing will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 between 4 and 8 pm at Dixon-Garland Funeral Home located at 166 Main Street Markham N, in Markham, Ontario with a funeral mass taking place on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 10 am at the same location. Following the funeral mass John will be laid to rest at Christ the King Catholic Cemetery located at 7770 Steeles Ave E, in Markham, Ontario.
Anyone wishing to make a donation in John’s memory in lieu of flowers may do so to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
“He was a man. Take him for all in all, I shall not look upon his like again.”
Rest in peace, John. You will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
