Obituary of David Hoover Grove

David was born on July 29, 1935 to Fanny Hoover and Levi Grove. He was the second of four children who grew up on the family farm on McCowan Road. As a child, Dave and his siblings, Jake, Mary and Harold, enjoyed close access to extended family. He often spoke fondly of being able to roam across the acreage to play with his cousins and work with and learn from his uncles.

Dave was not interested in farming and early on found his life’s work in carpentry and construction, leading to his 55 year career with Betz Pools. Dave enjoyed many interesting hobbies as a young man that sometimes were considered ahead of his time including photography, nice cars, and building hi-fi stereos.

On Sept. 16, 1961, David Grove married Lily Schmucker. They began their married life living in the farm house ‘back the lane’.

After Ken was born, Dave and Lil built their home on an acre of the family farm and welcomed Doug and Shirley into the family. Linda joined the family as a toddler, their fourth child. Dave valued his connections with his children’s partners including Jane, Wes and Karin. He was enthusiastic about spending time with extended family and other frequent visitors to the home -many of whom stayed for extended visits/summers/seasons and became like family.

Later in life, Dave appreciated the relationships with and was very proud of his grandchildren and their partners Katie (Luke),Benjamin (Amber), Elhana (Andy), Aaron (Julia) and Lily.

Dave is fondly remembered by his family, friends, neighbours and the Mennonite Church community. He will be dearly missed by many.
