It is with great sadness we announce the unexpected and accidental passing on August 3, 2024, in his 24th year, while attending a concert that he loved so much. Leaving behind loving parents Kelly and Jason, sister Jillian and brother Jack, grandparents Glenda Hutton (Gram), Dave Remonde( Pa) and Geri Remonde (Grandma), his many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins, and family pets Zola and Macy. 

Matthew was fun, free-spirited, fearless, and deeply compassionate and a child at heart. He enjoyed various hobbies such as snowboarding, skiing, swimming, listening to music, binge-watching his favourite shows, camping, concerts, animals of all kinds and laughter in all forms. His favourite foods included Sheppard’s pie, fish and chips, pizza, steak and all sorts of sweet and sour candies. He had a wide range of musical interests, from rap and techno to new country and old-school rock and roll. Matthew found solace and excitement on ski hills, making them his favourite places in the world. From big (Whistler) to small (Dagmar), it didn’t matter just as long as he was on the slopes.  He recently snowboarded in the French Alps. 

Among Matthew’s proudest accomplishments, he graduated with honors from Durham College in the HVAC program working towards completing his HVAC apprenticeship and had just completed his Gas 2 Technician certificate days prior to his death. 

Matthew will be remembered for his loyalty, charm, and sense of humor, fearlessness, sensitivity, and caring nature.  In his short time with us, Matthew touched the lives of many.  May his kind and loving spirit live on.

Family and friends will be received at DIXON-GARLAND FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, August 10th, from 11 am -2 pm, followed by a service at 3 pm at GRACE CHURCH.

The family thanks everyone for the overwhelming love and support from family, friends, and the community during this difficult time.  In lieu of flowers, donations made to Ontario SPCA for Matthew's love of animals or CAMH, which is always in great need to support the amazing things they do, would be most appreciated.
