Obituary of Barbara Anne Wicks
Barb’s caring heart departed unexpectedly but with quiet peace at Southlake Hospital on June 21st, 2024. She had missed her beloved husband Jim every single day since his passing in August 2016. Barb leaves behind their children, Laurie (Rick), Debbie, and Murray (Trina), who meant the world to her. Her grandchildren, Luke, Rachel, Victoria, and Gabrielle, were not just loved but fiercely supported by her.
Barb, the second child of Clifford and Margaret Buffam, was born in Lanark, Ontario but spent her formative years in Markham. Her love story with Jim began at Markham District High School, leading to a lifetime of love and memories. Together, they raised their family on Ninth Line in Markham and were active in St. Andrews United Church. Barb worked tirelessly in various secretarial roles in construction and agriculture once her children were in school.
An avid tennis player, Barb felt a deep sadness as her eyesight began to decline, forcing her to give up on the sport she adored. She dabbled in golf for a while, grateful for the friends who helped her along the course. For over 50 years, she indulged in weekly bridge games with her steadfast group of friends. Her time at Swan Lake brought cherished friendships and lasting memories. Nothing brought Barb more joy than being with her family. She maintained strong bonds with her siblings and cousins, treasuring each moment spent together. A true baker at heart, she delighted in making pies and treats for those she cared for. She always found solace and happiness working in her garden. Barbs presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and compassion will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew her.
