Obituary of Marjorie Marie Sutherland
Marjorie Marie (Huras) Sutherland passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on June 20, 2024.
Marj was born in Kitchener, Ontario to George Huras and Marie (Neff) Huras on September 23, 1932. She was their second child and first daughter. She was predeceased by her older brother Don and her youngest sister Linda and is survived by her sister Lorain and brother Lorne.
Marj married the love of her life, Donald Mowat Sutherland, on August 30, 1952. Over the course of the next dozen years or so they began to build their family. In 1955 their eldest son Dale came into the world and by 1965 they brought their youngest son Todd along to make an even 8. In between there was Donna, Mike, Sue, Steve, Mark, and Lori. Both Marj and Don loved baseball, so it was no surprise, and yet a wonderful surprise, that six years later they completed their baseball team and brought the joy of our lives into the world with another daughter Sheri.
Over the years the children married and provided Marj with seventeen grandchildren. Her first was Adam who was the first to greet her in heaven, having passed away last year. Then along came Amber, Aaron, William, Shannon, Victoria, Wesley, Mackenzie, Kenneth, Samantha, Holly, Joshua, Sydney, Matteo, Alexa, Blayze, and Skylar. Along the way, and in between continued births of grandchildren came her twelve great grandchildren, Brooklynne, Maddie, Morghan, Noah, Bentley, Quintan, Jackson, Chloe, Macy, Aubrey, Jack, and Ryker.
Marj’s greatest love was her family. Her home was always open for nieces and nephews, in- laws and out-laws. The kitchen table was never big enough to handle all the folks who shared meals and played card games through the years. Her home was always full of laughter and love, the stories flowed freely and grew with pride over the years.
Marj had many hobbies, card games, reading, knitting, and baking kept her busy. All that could be done while she watched and cheered for her favourite sports teams. She will be cheering on in heaven for a successful game 7 in the Stanley Cup for sure.
Marj lived the last 28 years in the home of her youngest child, Sheri. Together with her wife Carina, Sheri provided a wonderful life for Marj. Their five grandchildren were Marj’s constant companions along with her four-legged watch dog, Marley.
Marj’s ashes have been comingled with Don’s. Her wish was that the family remember her on her birthday with a party. No service is planned at this time but look for a notice closer to September.
