Obituary of Robert Alan Bruce MacMullen
Robert Alan Bruce MacMullen (76) of Markham Ontario went peacefully to Heaven on April 2, 2024. The funeral service will be held at the Dixon-Garland Funeral Home at 166 Main Street North, Markham, Ontario on April 22, 2024 at 1 p.m., with Robert’s brother Don officiating.
Robert was born in Oshawa, Ontario on November 18, 1947, to Don and Barbara MacMullen – their firstborn of 5 children. He went to Courtice Secondary School and from there began a long career in the travel industry, including an executive position with the Canadian Travel Association. Robert was thus able to indulge his love of travel which included two trips around the world, plus exotic stops in Singapore, Australia, India and a safari in Africa.
Robert’s next career move involved starting his own marketing business until he retired. He was very proud of his Scottish Heritage, and was an avid researcher of the family genealogy, and ancestry. And always he loved spending time with family and friends.
Robert fought a 20-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease – a battle he fought with courage, determination, cheerfulness, and gallantry – and always with his beloved Nusia at his side, advocating and intervening, masterminding and supervising his treatment at every turn.
Robert is survived by his wife and best friend, Nusia, with whom he enjoyed every minute of their 36 years of happy marriage, even when days and nights were spent in hospitals. He will be missed by his siblings Don, Ralph, Janet (Bailey) and Jane, and by his brothers-in-law, Keith Ridding, Andrew Staszkiewicz (Clare), and Josh Staszkiewicz (Nicky). He was loved by all his nieces and nephews – both here and in England (Jodi, Jadon, Jaime, Jenna, Annie, Donnie, Joshua, Jessica, Krystal, Lloyd, Thomas and Katie). We are saddened that the next generation of children will not get to know and to spend time with this generous and genuine and gentle man.
Donations in his memory may be made to Parkinson’s of Canada (parkinsons.ca). A special thank you to Dr. Mui and to the Spectrum Health PSW’s.
