James Spencer

Obituary of James Edward George Spencer

After a long and rich life, James Edward George Spencer (Jim), passed away peacefully with his family at his side. He was in his 100th year. Jim and his loving wife , Dodey, had a wonderful marriage of 77 CC years and lived in Markham for over 65 of those years. He is survived by their 5 children: Anne (Wayne Archer), Jim (Janet), Bob (Laura), Nancy(Ron des Vignes) and Cathy (Scott Boyington). Dad was blessed to see his adored 10 grandchildren grow into adulthood. Adrienne(Brock) Katie( James)and Michael(Sarah), Jamie, Megan(Trevor) and Nick, Chris and Leigha, Justin(Nicole)and Preston(Sarah) will miss their Poppa. In addition Dad and mom enjoyed their great grandchildren recently grown to 11 in number. Jim was born in Calgary to Jack and Janet (Watson). He had two sisters, Margaret (Fred, Jack) and Betty (Tom, Jack) all deceased. Dad was fond of and will be remembered by his nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.  WWII was pivotal in dad’s life as he became an RCAF pilot and trained overseas. His war service provided the opportunity to achieve his engineering degree at UBC. Jim’s successful work career landed him with Byron Jackson of Canada where he sold the first heavy water pump in the world to Atomic Energy of Canada. Dad and mom had many wonderful travels for work and pleasure. With mostly family help, dad and mom almost single handedly built their cottage on Moose Lake, Haliburton. In his retirement years, Dad was an avid adopter of the computer and self published a complete genealogy of the Spencer family. Dad also filled his life with Barbershop singing and golf with his buddies Harvey and Bob.A life well lived.

A big thank you to the kind and supportive care at Chartwell Rouge Valley and to Kelly and her psw workers.
