Obituary of Verna Frances Dart

After a brief period of illness, Verna Frances Dart passed peacefully in her sleep on December 14, with her two sons, Glenn and David, by her side. At 88 years of age, on her last birthday, she stated with clear satisfaction, "I have had a good and long life".

Verna was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan on May 27, 1935 to parents Rose and John McCarty. While very young, her family relocated to Unionville, Ontario where she grew up and eventually met and married Russell Dart in 1955. Together they raised a family of four, Christine, Cathy, Glenn and David in Markham, Ontario. Verna was a devoted stay-at-home mom, committed fully to her family and home life. Once the kids were older, she returned to the workforce to spend many happy and fulfilling years with Sears as a customer service representative. In retirement, she and Russ took great pleasure in travelling, camping, golf and time spent with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Verna always had a special fondness for the young ones. She also had a special place in her heart for the family dog, Riley.

Verna is predeceased by her husband Russell (2017). She leaves behind daughters Christine and Cathy (son-in-law Ian), sons Glenn (daughter-in-law Lesley) and David, grand-daughters Samantha (fiancé River) and Jamey (husband Preston), great-grandkids Madelyn and Dylan, and sister Marjorie Boadway. She will be greatly missed by all.

The family would like to acknowledge and extend our deepest, heartfelt thanks to the kind and compassionate staff and nurses at Southlake Village Long Term Care Home in Newmarket for the excellent care given our mother, and ourselves as we accompanied her through her final days.

Visitation will be held at Dixon-Garland Funeral home on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 from 2–4pm and 6–8pm. Interment will be held privately with family.

In lieu of flowers, may we suggest donations be made to either the Canadian Alzheimers Society or the Arthritis Society of Canada.
