Ron posted a condolence
Saturday, December 9, 2023
When I was just a wee fella, 70+ years ago, my parents were driving Eleanor and Charlie home from somewhere, possibly the Balsam Lake cottage to their then home which was the upstairs of Eleanor’s parents house on hwy 7 in Markham. I remember it being dark out and the conversation turning to me staying with them for a few days and me, being EXTREMELY shy at the time not wanting any part of that scenario so pretending to be asleep. I remember Eleanor saying that he’s asleep and not wanting to wake me and my Dad saying he’s faking. I continued with the ruse anyway but was picked up and carried into the house. I remember at some point in my stay there was a thunder storm at night; I don’t know if I was actually scared or if Eleanor just assumed I might be but I remember, to this day. seeing her kneeling beside my bed in the faint night time light from the window that was beside my location which might have been the living room couch they, I assume, being newly weds and not being fully equipped as yet. I remember her saying “it’s ok, it’s just the angels bowling”. I still use that line myself!
I don’t remember much more about that stay but I do remember there being 2 collie dogs, Bonny and Danny if memory serves.
Our most sincere condolences to you all
